Job description

We are seeking tow (2) motivated and detail-oriented Junior Survey Crew Chiefs to join our surveying team. The ideal candidate will assist in leading field survey crews, ensuring accurate data collection, and maintaining high standards of safety and efficiency. This role is perfect for someone with some field experience looking to take the next step in their surveying career.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in leading and directing survey field crews on flagging, topographic, construction, and other land surveys.
  • Operate and maintain surveying equipment, including GPS, total stations, data collectors, and levels.
  • Collect and record field data accurately, ensuring compliance with project specifications.
  • Interpret survey plans, maps, and legal descriptions to perform field surveys.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and company policies at all times.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, project managers, and clients.
  • Assist in training and mentoring junior survey technicians.
  • Perform basic survey calculations and data processing.
  • Maintain organized field notes and documentation.
  • Ability to work out of town on a 6/1 rotation

Requirements

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent (Associate's degree or certification in Surveying, Geomatics, or related field preferred).
  • Experience: 1-3 years of experience in land surveying; prior crew leadership experience is a plus.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with GPS, robotic total stations, and data collectors (e.g., Trimble, or similar).
  • Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork abilities.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, lift up to 50 lbs, and walk long distances over rough terrain.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Valid driver's license required; CSTS; GHS; First Aid; H2S Alive; ATV/UTV Operator Training. Drone experience / certificate is an asset

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or other survey-related software is an asset.
  • Knowledge of construction surveys (civil, piling, road, foundation etc.).
