Your Challenge

EXP is seeking a Junior Structural Designer to join our Central Canada Buildings group. Based in Ottawa, with work arrangements possibly hybrid between home and our Markham office, this role offers the opportunity to work on diverse projects. The primary focus is assisting our design team with structural design for commercial, industrial, and institutional projects.

Your Responsibilities

• Assist with design of steel, concrete, timber, and masonry structures
• Assist with analysis of existing structures for changes in loading or proposed alterations, including designing reinforcements
• Prepare design sketches for drafting and assist with development and coordination of structural drawings and specifications
• Collaborate with senior and junior engineers
• Participate in design meetings with owners, architects, and consultants
• Attend construction site meetings and conduct site visits to review work compliance
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients and stakeholders

The Skills and Knowledge You Bring

• Degree in Structural Engineering from a recognized university
• P. Eng. Licence is an asset but not mandatory
• Preferably 3 to 6 years of experience in structural analysis and design
• Experience with NBCC, CSA standards
• Field experience on construction sites, conducting reviews for compliance and writing reports
• Experience with structural software such as Etabs, SAFE, SAP
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Team player with the ability to work independently
• Hardworking, responsible, and dedicated to client service and technical excellence
• Effective communicator, adaptable to changing needs
• Strategic thinker capable of drawing rational conclusions
• Valid driver's license required
