Job summary

KWESST, a DEFSEC Technologies company, seeks a Junior Programmer to support the Canadian Armed Forces as part of the DLCSPM within the DND’s DSEF program in Gatineau, QC. You will help design and implement Command and Control specialty applications, focusing on reliability and scalability of critical software.

The role requires a background in software programming across several high-level languages, with experience in CASE tools and SAFe processes. Collaboration with IPT members is essential.

Qualifications

• Using at least one high level language (ADA, Java, C++, or C#).
• Using CASE tools (e.g. Rational Team Concert, JIRA).
• Using a client mandated Software development process (e.g. SAFe).
• Demonstrated experience as a Software Programmer within an IPT for an onsite client.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Translate flow charts into coded machine instructions and confer with technical personnel.
• Design methods for small computer systems and sub-systems of larger systems.
• Select and incorporate available software programs.
• Verify accuracy and completeness of programs via sample data and system tests.
• Correct program errors by revising instructions or changing operation sequences.
• Test instructions and assemble documentation for future modification.
• Create and modify code and software.
• Create and modify screens and reports.
• Produce forms, manuals, data files, and procedures for systems and applications.

Job Description:

KWESST is seeking a highly skilled Junior Programmer to become a part of our team. This position will be to support the Canadian Armed Forces as part of the Director Land Command Support Program Management (DLCSPM) of the Department of National Defence’s (DND’s) Software Engineering Facility (DSEF) program in Gatineau, Qc.

The ideal candidate should come with a good background in software programming with several high-level languages. Core responsibilities will involve supporting the design and implementation of DND’s Command and Control Specialty Applications, with a focus on maintaining the reliability and scalability of these applications. This important role will contribute to our mission of developing state-of-the-art software solutions for the Canadian Armed Forces.

Job Responsibilities:

• Translate detailed flow charts into coded machine instructions and confer with technical personnel in planning programs.
• Design methods and procedures for small computer systems, and sub-system of larger systems.
• Select and incorporate available software programs.
• Verify accuracy and completeness of programs by preparing sample data and testing them by means of system acceptance test runs made by operating personnel.
• Correct program errors by revising instructions or altering the sequence of operations.
• Test instructions, and assemble specifications, flow charts, diagrams, layouts, programming and operating instructions to document applications for later modification or reference.
• Create and modify code and software.
• Create and modify screens and reports.
• Produce forms, manuals, programs, data files, and procedures for systems and/or applications.

Qualifications:

Experience:

Demonstrated experience in the following criteria:

• Using at least 1 of the following high-level languages (ADA (95, 05 or 2012, Java, C++, or C#).
• Using CASE tools (e.g. Rational Team Concert, JIRA).
• Using a client mandated Software development process (e.g. Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe))
• Demonstrated experience as a Software Programmer within an Integrated Product Team (IPT) for an onsite client.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills.
• SECRET security clearance (or the ability to obtain one) is a must

Education:

A College Diploma in Engineering or Computer Technology field is a must.
