Junior Mechanical Engineer - Relocation to Labrador City

Your future role on our team

To support project and client development in the Labrador region, BBA is seeking a candidate for the engineering profession in mechanical engineering to bolster its local multidisciplinary team. This team works closely with our offices in Sept-Îles, Montréal, and Mont-Saint-Hilaire and contributes to regional development and delivering projects in the mining, metals, and energy sectors. By joining this small, collaborative team focused on proximity, you'll benefit from BBA's network of recognized experts, who’ll support you in your mandates and your professional growth. You'll also have the opportunity to be actively involved on project sites and client work sites.

With a strategically located office close to our clients, you’ll have several opportunities to perform site surveys, provide technical assistance to local clients, and participate in commissioning new equipment and systems while working on projects of all sizes.

Job location:

This is a permanent position. You'll spend the first three months working at a major centre (e.g., Montréal, Mont-Saint-Hilaire), followed by a temporary assignment (two to three years) at our Labrador City office. Afterward, you’ll return to a major centre or remain in Labrador City to pursue your career.

  • Prepare technical documents for mandates related to heavy mechanics, conveyors, pumping systems, grinding mills, and metallurgical processes, as well as engineering for mechanical services
  • Perform detailed calculations under the supervision of experienced engineers
  • Conduct onsite technical information surveys
  • Prepare material lists and bills of lading in accordance with codes, standards, drawings, and other established procedures within BBA’s quality system requirements
  • Assist more experienced personnel with technical aspects of complex tasks
  • Occasionally coordinate the work of drafters or others, at the request of a senior engineer
  • Help write technical reports
  • Assist the team with technical audits at work sites
  • Help supervise the work and commissioning of designed systems
  • Participate in various project phases, from studies and detailed engineering to site support and commissioning

Overview of certifications and job requirements

  • University degree in mechanical engineering and membership in a Canadian professional engineering association
  • Three years of experience or less
  • Available for short-term work assignments between Labrador City and our Sept-Îles office, depending on business needs
  • Available for short-term (up to 50% of the time) work with our clients in Québec and across Canada
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office Suite, including Excel, and other applications, databases, and interfaces
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Navisworks applications
  • Asset: experience in heavy industry sectors (mining, petrochemicals, energy, etc.)
  • Asset: knowledge of SmartPlant 3D, CADWorx, ANSYS, and Fathom applications
  • Asset: bilingual in English and French
