Junior/Intermediate Bridge Engineer (Calgary or Edmonton)

Join to apply for the Junior/Intermediate Bridge Engineer (Calgary or Edmonton) role at DIALOG

Are you ready to be a part of a close-knit, high performing bridge engineering team, shaping a sustainable future for public infrastructure as part of an integrated engineering and architectural design practice? We’re looking for a talented Bridge / Structural Engineer to join our outstanding team!

Our multi-disciplinary team is proud of our award-winning projects like the Bow Valley Gap Wildlife Overpass, Groat Road Bridge Rehabilitation, and Walterdale Bridge—designs that consider every footprint, from wildlife and pedestrians to cyclists and vehicles. On every project of every scale, we strive to provide thoughtful and clever design, leading to exceptional outcomes. Join a team that’s guided by purpose, passion, technical skills and entrepreneurship to create incredible places and enhance community well-being.

We're currently looking for a Bridge Engineer to join our Calgary or Edmonton Studio. As the successful candidate, you have demonstrated creativity, a collaborative spirit, and a thirst for excellence. Our bridge engineers don't just focus on the design of elements, they are involved with the entire project, understanding the constraints and complications that streams, pathways, soils, the environment, construction staging, architectural aspirations and the unique needs of project partners and stakeholders have on bridge design.

How you'll make a difference:

  • Acting in the role of structural design engineer and/or field review engineer on a variety of bridge and urban infrastructure projects of all scales and complexities.
  • Delivering designs for new structures and for the asset management and rehabilitation of existing structures, such as vehicle bridges, pedestrian bridges, transit bridges, retaining walls, and other civil infrastructure.
  • Following through all phases of projects from concept design through construction.
  • Demonstrating the grit and skill to produce the highest technical quality in the delivery of designs, drawings, specifications, and field review services.
  • Working independently and in collaborative teams with engineers, architects, and other partners, both in-house and with external consultants and government agencies
  • Mentoring and enabling the success of team-mates. Coach and review the work of more junior team members.

Who you are:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering is required, a Graduate Degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in Structural Engineering is preferred.
  • A Professional Engineer registered with APEGA or another provincial engineering association preferred (though candidates registered as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with relevant industry experience will also be considered).
  • A structural designer with 3-8 years of bridge design experience is preferred; project management experience is further considered an asset.
  • A highly creative and skilled engineer with experience in bridge design and analysis.
  • Have experience with technical software such as REVIT (or other BIM software), SAP2000, CSI Bridge, and/or Midas Civil (or other analysis software) is preferred.
  • Thrive in a high performance team environment, including managing deadlines and multiple tasks/projects.
  • Dedicated to design excellence and contributing to projects that make a positive impact in our communities and transportation networks.
  • Committed to a collaborative approach to work with agility and resourcefulness.

Don’t meet every single requirement? We still encourage you to apply! We’re looking for people who are eager to learn, bring unique perspectives, and want to make a real difference in the world—even if your experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification.

Parental leave top-up programs for all parents upon the birth or adoption of a child, RRSP matching, competitive medical and dental benefits coverage upon the first day of employment, discounted memberships, encouraged work/life balance with gifted time off during the holiday season and Vacation Buy-Up program, and reimbursement for professional memberships and dues are just a few of the benefits that DIALOGers enjoy.
