Job summary

WSP in Canada is seeking a Junior Hydrogeologist to join our Alberta team. You will support groundwater investigations and environmental projects across mining, oil and gas, and resource development, gaining hands-on field and technical experience toward a rewarding Earth and Environment career.

Work with experienced hydrogeologists and environmental professionals. You’ll assist with drilling oversight, borehole logging, groundwater sampling, data management and reporting, and prepare for site

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Engineering or related field.
  • Eligibility to obtain P.Eng./P.Geo. in Alberta or equivalent.
  • 0–4 years of hydrogeology/environmental consulting/mining/oil & gas experience.
  • Strong written communication and data management skills.

As a Junior Hydrogeologist, you'll support a broad range of hydrogeological investigations and environmental projects across industries including mining, oil and gas, and natural resource development. Your Impact
  • Support hydrogeologists and project managers in delivering groundwater investigations, environmental assessments, and hydrogeological studies across Alberta and Northern Canada.
  • Assist with field programs including drilling oversight, borehole logging, monitoring and pumping well installation, aquifer testing, groundwater sampling, and dissolved gas sampling.
  • Analyze and organize field data to support technical interpretations, reporting, and hydrogeological assessments.
  • Contribute to Environmental Impact Assessments, mine dewatering studies, baseline groundwater programs, and groundwater supply projects.
  • Champion a strong safety culture by following established health, safety, and environmental procedures and promoting best practices in the field.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of scientists, engineers, and technical specialists to deliver innovative solutions for clients.
  • Develop technical expertise through mentorship, training, and exposure to challenging projects across diverse environments.
  • Help advance sustainable resource management and environmental stewardship through high-quality scientific work.
The Skills That Set You Apart
  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Eligibility to obtain registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) in Alberta or an equivalent Canadian jurisdiction.
  • 0 to 4 years of relevant hydrogeology, environmental consulting, mining, oil and gas, or related experience.
  • Understanding of physical hydrogeology principles through academic coursework, research, thesis work, or field experience.
  • Experience with borehole logging, monitoring well installation, hydraulic conductivity testing, groundwater sampling, or related field activities is considered an asset.
  • Strong technical writing, data management, organization, and analytical skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to remote project sites, including rotations away from home for up to two to three weeks and occasional day or night shifts.
  • Commitment to working safely, collaborating effectively in field environments, and continuously developing professionally.

Compensation

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $60,100 - $79,600

MB & ON: $54,800 - $75,400

NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $54,200 - $72,000

The final salary awarded for this role may vary from the above range based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
