Job Description

Locations: LANGLEY, VANCOUVER, VICTORIA, KAMLOOPS, BURNABY, KELOWNA, PRINCE GEORGE

WSP has an opportunity for a junior-level Hazardous Materials Professional to join our team, providing hazardous materials assessment and abatement/remediation services to our clients.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Visually assessing buildings for hazardous materials such as asbestos, lead, PCBs, mercury, ozone-depleting substances, and microbial growth; collecting bulk samples for laboratory analysis.
  • Preparing assessment reports on hazardous materials in buildings.
  • Developing management plans, safe work procedures, abatement specifications, and exposure control plans.
  • Conducting condition assessments and abatement/remediation inspections.
  • Performing air monitoring and preparing reports on project progress and completion.
  • Assisting with other occupational hygiene projects under supervision of a Certified Industrial Hygienist.
  • Supporting clients with asset assessments, data management, and compliance issues related to regulated materials.

This role requires local and regional travel, including remote and physically demanding conditions, both indoors and outdoors. Light to moderate lifting may be necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Occupational Health and Safety or Environmental diploma/certificate/degree (asset).
  • 1-2 years’ experience in health and safety or hazardous materials.
  • Hazardous materials training, including WorkSafeBC Level S Surveyor Safety Training (required); additional training such as AHERA, Alberta Asbestos Worker, Hazardous Materials Technician, Lead Inspector, or Mould Assessment courses (assets).
  • Experience in consulting industry (asset).
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License in BC, personal vehicle, and good driving record.
  • Enthusiasm, technical excellence, strong communication skills, and ability to work independently or in a team.
  • Willingness to travel and work rotational shifts, including being away for up to two weeks.

Salary Range: $55,400 to $76,200 (may vary based on experience, qualifications, and location).
