Tetra Tech is seeking a Junior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Geotechnical Engineering team in Vancouver, BC. This role supports foundation design and site investigations under the guidance of senior engineers, with opportunities for fieldwork across Western Canada.

You will contribute to geotechnical reports, assist with project planning, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in a hybrid work environment offering professional growth and mentorship from industry-leading experts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil or geological engineering.
• At least 1 year of geotechnical engineering and foundation design experience.
• Strong geotechnical knowledge with good communication.
• Willingness to travel across Western Canada for field assignments.

Responsibilities

• Assist with development of geotechnical solutions including foundation design.
• Prepare technical letters, reports, proposals, and project documentation.
• Support planning, scheduling, and budget tracking for projects.
• Coordinate with clients, contractors, and subconsultants under senior guidance.
• Assist with field programs, explorations, and data collection.
• Contribute to geotechnical evaluation reports and recommendations.
• Assist with design of civil earthwork and construction specs.
• Support geotechnical design for infrastructure projects including pipelines and bridges.
• Help with geohazard assessments and terrain mapping.

The salary range for this position is $75,000 to $90,000 per annum. Please note that Tetra Tech considers various factors in determining pay, including but not limited to: education, relevant and demonstrated work experience in the role, skills, geographic location, qualifications, certifications, and other competencies relevant to the needs of the business.

Your Role:

• Assisting with the development of technical solutions for a variety of geotechnical applications, including foundation design in seismically active environments.
• Supporting the preparation of technical letters, reports, proposals, and other project documentation.
• Working under the guidance of senior engineers and collaborating with junior and intermediate staff members and co-op students.
• Assisting with project planning, resource coordination, scheduling, and budget tracking to support the successful delivery of projects.
• Communicating and coordinating with coworkers, clients, contractors, and subconsultants under the direction of senior project team members.
• Supporting the planning and execution of field programs, including site explorations, field observations, and data collection.
• Reviewing and analyzing geotechnical information and assisting with the preparation of geotechnical evaluation reports and recommendations.
• Assisting with the design of civil earthwork structures and the preparation of construction specifications.
• Supporting the design of linear infrastructure projects, including pipelines, water mains, transmission lines, highways, and bridge foundations.
• Assisting with geotechnical design and assessments for marine and port infrastructure, hospitals, community centres, commercial buildings, residential towers, and other developments.
• Assisting with geohazard assessments, including terrain mapping, hazard mapping, and preliminary risk assessments.

Qualifications:

• A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in civil or geological engineering.
• A minimum of 1 year of relevant geotechnical engineering and foundation design experience.
• Strong all-round academic knowledge of geotechnical engineering.
• Experience with engineering design software will be an advantage.
• Registered or eligible to register as an Engineer-in-Training in British Columbia.
• Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).
• Travel will be required in this position throughout Western Canada, and candidates must be prepared to undertake field assignments possibly lasting up to three to four weeks at a time.
• Strong people skills and an ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
