We are seeking motivated individuals to join our Materials Technology Team as a Junior Field Technician at our Ottawa location. You will work with a team of enthusiastic technicians under the supervision and mentorship of civil and geotechnical engineering professionals.

The Ottawa Office of GHD collaborates with local governments, contractors, Federal agencies, and private industries on projects across transportation, infrastructure, institutional, and industrial sectors. Your role will include :

  • Providing technical assistance in materials engineering and testing, including field and laboratory testing of construction materials, in-situ density testing with nuclear gauges, and testing of concrete and asphalt;
  • Supporting field operations for geotechnical, pavement, and materials investigations, including site layout, equipment operation, supervising subcontractors, logging boreholes and test pits, site surveying, sampling, and providing detailed sketches;
  • Conducting construction site reconnaissance, inspections, and observations;
  • Supporting other team members in field, laboratory, and office activities as needed;
  • Performing laboratory tests on soils, aggregates, concrete, and other materials to industry standards;
  • General laboratory testing of construction materials.

Skills, Competencies, and Qualifications :

  • College diploma in Geotechnical, Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or Construction;
  • 1 to 2 years of relevant experience;
  • Excellent time management skills;
  • Strong communication skills;
  • CCIL certification or ACI Level 1 and 2 certifications for concrete testing are assets;
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work as part of a team and cooperate with others;
  • Willingness to work nights when required;
  • Ability to meet challenging deadlines;
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
