Job description

About Meloharmonious Law Corporation

Meloharmonious Law Corporation is a boutique, client-focused family law firm based in Victoria, BC. We operate as a fully remote practice, serving clients across British Columbia, with a primary focus on Vancouver Island. Our approach emphasizes practical, compassionate advocacy in a flexible and supportive professional environment.

The Opportunity

This position is ideal for a newly called or early-career lawyer who is looking to gain meaningful litigation experience in family law. You’ll regularly appear in both Provincial Court of British Columbia and Supreme Court of British Columbia, manage active files, and work closely with experienced counsel. This is an excellent opportunity to grow into a confident advocate while working remotely and maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

You will also have the support of a legal assistant to ensure files are managed efficiently and administrative tasks are handled smoothly.

Location Note

This is a remote position; however, we prefer candidates who reside on Vancouver Island, particularly Victoria, BC, to support in-person court appearances and travel primarily on Vancouver Island, with occasional travel to the Lower Mainland.

  • Key Responsibilities: Represent clients in both virtual and in-person Provincial and Supreme Court proceedings for interim proceedings and trials
  • Draft pleadings, affidavits, agreements, and legal correspondence
  • Participate in client meetings, case strategy, and settlement negotiations
  • Attend mediation and arbitration meetings
  • Maintain organized electronic files and manage court timelines
  • Work with a legal assistant to support file progression and client communications
  • Communicate professionally and empathetically with clients in high-conflict or emotional situations
  • Who You Are: Member in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia (0-5 year call)
  • Strong legal writing, research, and communication skills
  • Motivated, reliable, and comfortable working independently in a remote environment
  • Willing and able to travel for in-person court appearances and meetings—primarily on Vancouver Island, with some travel to the Lower Mainland
  • Holds a valid BC driver’s licence and access to reliable transportation
  • Preferably based in Victoria, BC, or open to regular travel in the region
  • Assets: Family law experience from articling or early practice
  • Familiarity with general litigation
  • Passion in litigation
  • Second language fluency
  • Calm, respectful, and trauma-informed communication style
  • What We Offer: Starting salary of $70,000-$135,000, depending on experience
  • Performance-based bonus opportunities
  • Paid vacation and flexible scheduling
  • Law Society fees and CPD costs covered
  • Support from a legal assistant
  • Mentorship and meaningful court experience
  • Realistic workload in a remote, supportive work environment
