Job summary

Imperial Metal Industries Inc. in Canada is seeking a Junior Estimator – Level I to assist in preparing cost estimates and bid proposals for construction projects. You will process bid requests, review drawings, perform material takeoffs and help ensure accuracy throughout estimating.

Reporting to the Sales Manager, you will use Bluebeam, SharePoint, and PowerFab to organize bid documents, assemble drawing sets, and support project teams from initial inquiry through award.

Qualifications

• Previous experience or education in construction estimating, drafting, or a related field is preferred.
• Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings.
• Proficiency with software such as Bluebeam, SharePoint, and PowerFab is an asset.
• Attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to learn and apply estimating processes effectively.

Responsibilities

• Process bid requests and related docs; add bids to SharePoint and Planner for tracking.
• Review and download project plans and specifications.
• Assemble working drawing sets.
• Organize documents in Bluebeam with labels, bookmarks and scales.
• Ensure drawings have correct labels, bookmarks and scale.
• Perform accurate material takeoffs to support estimating.
• Maintain project information, weights, totals, and metric/imperial units.

Junior Estimator – Level I

The Jr. Estimator is responsible for assisting in the preparation of cost estimates and bid proposals for construction projects. This role involves processing bid requests, reviewing construction documents, performing material takeoffs, and ensuring accuracy in estimating processes. The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail and the ability to interpret and analyze project specifications efficiently.

Reporting to: Sales Manager

Key Responsibilities

• Process bid requests and all bid related documentation by downloading, organizing and adding bids to SharePoint and Planner for tracking and review.
• Review and download project plans and specifications.
• Assemble working drawing sets.
• Organize documents in Bluebeam by labeling pages, creating bookmarks, and adjusting scales.
• Ensure accurate processing of drawings with correct labels, bookmarks, and scale settings.
• Conduct accurate material takeoffs to support estimating.
• Maintain up-to-date project information, including weights, totals, and locations, and switch between metric and imperial measurements as needed.
