Responsibilities

Job description

Qualifications / Skill Set
Education & Professional Background
  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geology, Earth Sciences, Environmental Technology, or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Typically 1–2 years of environmental consulting or environmental field experience is preferred; recent graduates with relevant field training, internship with a strong interest in field environmental work are encouraged to apply.
  • Relevant certifications, field training, or professional development courses are considered an asset.
Technical Skills
  • Foundational understanding of environmental science principles, site assessment methodologies, and environmental monitoring programs. Experience or familiarity with environmental sampling techniques for soil, groundwater, surface water, and related environmental media.
  • Basic knowledge of remediation, reclamation, decommissioning, and environmental compliance programs is beneficial.
  • Ability to collect, record, and validate accurate field data while maintaining data quality and integrity.
  • Familiarity with environmental field equipment and standard sampling procedures.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Purpose of the Role

As a Junior Environmental Scientist or Technologist, you will play an important role in delivering field-based environmental programs that support remediation, decommissioning, reclamation, and environmental monitoring projects. Working alongside experienced environmental professionals, you will gain hands-on experience collecting high-quality environmental data, supporting field investigations, and contributing to projects that create measurable environmental outcomes.

Location: Cold Lake, Alberta (Field-Based Position)

This role is based out of Worley’s Cold Lake field office. Candidates must be willing to self-relocate to Cold Lake, Alberta.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct environmental fieldwork in support of site assessment, remediation, decommissioning, reclamation, and environmental monitoring programs.
  • Collect surface water, groundwater, soil, and other environmental samples in accordance with project requirements and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Support drilling programs, test pitting investigations, remedial excavations, and reclamation activities.
  • Accurately document field observations, collect defensible environmental data, and maintain detailed field records using established protocols and standard operating procedures.
  • Characterize and log soil conditions, including soil texture and classification, and operate environmental monitoring and sampling equipment.
  • Assist with field logistics, scheduling, equipment preparation, and procurement of project materials and supplies.
  • Support the preparation of technical reports, field summaries, and project documentation.
  • Collaborate with Senior Environmental Technologists, Scientists, Engineers, Project Managers, and multidisciplinary project teams to deliver high-quality project outcomes.
  • Maintain a strong commitment to health, safety, environmental stewardship, and quality execution in all activities.
  • Participate in site visits and field programs in industrial, rural, and remote environments while adhering to all personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety requirements.
  • Travel throughout the region as required to support client projects and field activities.
  • Work safely in varying weather conditions and terrain, including walking extended distances on uneven ground.
