Job description

As a member of the Hull Engineering team, the Junior Weight Control Engineer designs and plans processes, tools, and equipment needed for high-quality, efficient planning, construction, repair, testing/commissioning, and delivery of ships. This role applies broad theoretical knowledge typically obtained through advanced education and/or early work experience.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Engineering (B. Eng) in Naval Architecture or Aerospace
  • Some exposure to or interest in the marine field through work experience (e.g., co-op) or academic study
  • Demonstrated experience (generally 0-6 years) in ship design, construction, or relevant complex industrial and manufacturing environments
  • Ability to read blueprints, navigate within a 3D model and/or simulation of the ship, develop and markup drawings, prepare presentations and reports, develop technical specifications, perform technical investigations, and develop statements of work for subcontractors
  • Database development and management experience required. ShipWeight database experience preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Originate, under the supervision of a licensed P.Eng, deliverables within an assigned job scope area
  • Review detailed design information using the 3D model, 2D drawings, and production bill of materials
  • Review and resolve engineering defects related to ship design
  • Identify risks within their job scope, function, or broader engineering discipline
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement within their job scope and the broader engineering discipline
