What we're looking for

We are looking for an enthusiastic and talented Junior Specialist/Engineer to join our dynamic team in Halifax, NS. In this role, you will contribute to projects focused on noise and vibration in the maritime field, for a diverse range of commercial, government and defence clients. In addition to noise and vibration, you will also have an opportunity to learn about ship signature technologies and assessment more broadly.

The role

Your responsibilities will include field measurement and troubleshooting of noise and vibration, and supporting the development and verification of software and hardware systems used for data collection, processing, and analysis in the field. You will continuously learn, applying theoretical and practical skills to marine and offshore installations to ensure safe and sustainable conditions for crew/passengers, surrounding wildlife, and the broader environment.

This position offers a balanced mix of fieldwork (on shore and at sea) and desktop-based tasks, along with opportunities for domestic and international travel. In this junior role, you will typically be following an experienced engineer taking you through our on-the-job training.

  • Perform field measurements and assessments of ship signatures, including noise and vibration.
  • Refine and maintain hardware/software systems for the measurement and analysis of ship signatures, including noise and vibration.
  • Contribute to projects from initiation to completion, ensuring adherence to project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Analyse data and prepare detailed technical reports.
  • Participate in professional development, increasing your technical and business knowledge through on-the-job and formal training.
  • Participate in business development activities, including proposal writing, client meetings, and presentations.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry standards, regulations, and technological advancements related to noise and vibration control from ships and marine traffic.

What you bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Marine Science, or a related field. Engineers must be eligible for registration with Engineers Nova Scotia (EIT or P.Eng).
  • Must be eligible to apply for a Canadian Security Clearance to level SECRET. Failure to obtain a valid security clearance will unfortunately result in dismissal.
  • Effective computer and software development skills in programs such as Python, Labview, C++, FORTRAN, etc.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s Licenseor be willing to attain one.
  • Must have the ability to travel internationally.
  • Must be able to perform on-site work in a safe manner and complete all safety training related to field service activities.
  • Previous experience in noise/vibration assessment, ship signatures, data acquisition, field work and the marine sector is considered an asset

Applicants may be required to undergo pre ‐ employment testing including medical assessment.

  • has the ability to work on small to large boats while at sea. This may include low -moderate physical labour. Safety training and PPE will be provided.
