Junior Embryologist - Reproductive Care Centre

Job Description / Duties

As a Junior Embryologist, you will be responsible for the safe and precise handling of human gametes and embryos in Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) procedures. You will contribute to successful patient outcomes by maintaining the highest standards in laboratory practice, patient care, and regulatory compliance.
• Perform ART procedures including IVF, ICSI, embryo culture, blastocyst development, vitrification/thawing of oocytes and embryos, and embryo biopsy.
• Handle infectious biological samples (e.g., Hep B, Hep C, HIV) safely and in accordance with established protocols.
• Maintain aseptic technique and ensure all work is performed in a clean, compliant laboratory environment.
• Prepare and maintain detailed, accurate laboratory records and patient reports.
• Monitor and maintain laboratory equipment; conduct regular quality assurance and control checks.
• Communicate clearly with physicians and healthcare teams about treatment progress and laboratory findings.
• Participate in Health Canada inspections, ART accreditation processes, and CFAS certification requirements.
• Contribute to ongoing research projects and innovation in laboratory practice.
• Stay current in the field through literature reviews, professional development courses, and conference participation.
• Actively support initiatives that promote patient safety and continuous quality improvement.

Qualifications / Required Skills

• Bachelor or Masters degree in biological, or medical technology or ART
• Experience with eIVF or similar electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
• Advanced computer literacy, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Ability to work accurately and efficiently in a high-paced environment.
• Availability to work weekends and holidays on a rotational schedule.
• Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs. to assist with liquid nitrogen dewar handling.
• Deep understanding of reproductive biology.
• Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
• High attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.
• Strong initiative and ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Collaborative and adaptable in a team-based environment.
