Job summary

NordSpace Corp. in Ontario is seeking a Junior Electrical Engineer to help design, test, and integrate electrical systems for rocket and space hardware. You will move from schematic to bench with hands‑on hardware alongside senior engineers in a fast‑moving environment.

You will design PCBs, enable power distribution and harness fabrication, and collaborate across mechanical and software teams to resolve interface issues and support supplier discussions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, mechatronics, or a closely related field.
• 0–2 years of professional experience; internships and co‑ops count.
• Hands‑on proficiency with PCB design tools (Altium, KiCad, or similar).
• Demonstrable experience building and debugging real electrical hardware (through internships, engineering design teams, personal projects, or research).
• Solid understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals: circuit analysis, power electronics, signal integrity, and component selection.
• Comfortable working in an environment with shifting requirements and tight timelines.

Responsibilities

• Design and layout PCBs for avionics, power, or sensing applications from schematic to fabrication.
• Support bench testing and debugging of electrical assemblies using standard lab equipment.
• Assist in the design and analysis of power systems, including power budgeting and distribution architecture.
• Design and fabricate electrical harnesses, including wire routing and connector selection.
• Support electrical integration with mechanical and software teams, resolving interface issues.
• Participate in parts sourcing and supplier discussions with an eye for availability and manufacturability.
• Document schematics, wiring diagrams, test results, and engineering changes clearly.

Role purpose:

As a Junior Electrical Engineer, you will support the design, integration, and testing of electrical systems across NordSpace's rocket and space systems divisions. From PCB layout to power distribution to harness fabrication, you will work hands‑on with real hardware alongside senior engineers in a fast‑moving environment where designs go from schematic to bench quickly. You will support one or many electrical engineering areas of work depending on where you are needed most.

Core responsibilities

• Design and layout PCBs for avionics, power, or sensing applications, from schematic capture through to fabrication and bring-up.
• Support bench testing and debugging of electrical assemblies using standard lab equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, bench power supplies, logic analyzers).
• Assist in the design and analysis of power systems, including power budgeting, voltage regulation, battery management, and distribution architecture.
• Design and fabricate electrical harnesses, including wire routing, connector selection, crimping, and continuity verification.
• Support electrical integration with mechanical and software teams, resolving interface issues as they arise.
• Participate in parts sourcing and supplier discussions with an eye for availability, lead times, and design‑for‑manufacture trade‑offs.
• Document schematics, wiring diagrams, test results, and engineering changes clearly and consistently.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, mechatronics, or a closely related field.
• 0–2 years of professional experience; internships and co‑ops count.
• Hands‑on proficiency with PCB design tools (Altium, KiCad, or similar).
• Demonstrable experience building and debugging real electrical hardware (through internships, engineering design teams, personal projects, or research).
• Solid understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals: circuit analysis, power electronics, signal integrity, and component selection.
• Comfortable working in an environment where requirements shift, timelines are tight, and the answer isn't always in a datasheet.
• Genuine passion for space exploration and a desire to work on hardware that operates in extreme environments.
• Experience designing for low‑power, high‑reliability, or space‑relevant constraints (radiation tolerance, wide temperature ranges, mass and volume budgets) is an asset.
• Familiarity with electrical harness design standards or aerospace wiring practices is an asset.
• Exposure to battery or energy storage systems is an asset.
• Experience in a leadership role on an engineering design team is an asset.
• Legally authorized to work in Canada and eligible for registration under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP).
