Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in Canada is seeking an entry level Electrical Engineer to contribute to design and modifications for electrical power systems in nuclear projects. You will work under the guidance of a Senior Electrical Engineer and prepare engineering documents, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and support procurement and field activities.

The role requires an Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering, PEO eligibility, and good communication and technical writing skills.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Eligible to be registered as a Professional Engineer in Ontario (PEO).
  • Experience in electrical engineering and power systems is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering work following procedures and QA programs and applicable codes.
  • Coordinate with clients, suppliers, stakeholders and other design disciplines.
  • Support conceptual, preliminary and detailed design phases for nuclear electrical systems under supervision.
  • Prepare technical documents: drawings, calculations, specs and design manuals.
  • Assist field construction, commissioning and walkdown activities at site.
  • Prepare scope of work input to bid proposals.

Job Description Overview

As a new member of the Monark Electrical Engineering department, you will involved with a variety of exciting tasks supporting the design and modifications for the electrical power system for the next generation of Monark reactors. This role will require carrying out various duties involved with conceptual, preliminary and detailed engineering as well as procurement support for the associated electrical power system equipment. This position is for an entry level person who is self-motivated and willing to develop his/her career with experience in nuclear field. The candidate shall be able to follow the instruction from a qualified professional engineer to complete the assigned electrical related scopes or tasks and prepare necessary engineering design documentation as required.

Your role Duties will be carried out independently or under the direction/guidance of a Senior Electrical Engineer Technical Lead and may include the following:
  • Perform engineering work following Atkins Realis/Candu Energy procedures and QA programs, and applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate and interface with client(s), suppliers, stakeholders and other design disciplines to execute assigned engineering work.
  • Become involved in the conceptual, preliminary and/or detailed design phases to support CANDU and other Nuclear electrical systems and modifications under supervision of a P.Eng.
  • Prepare technical documents, such as: engineering drawings (including GAs, DDs, EDs), change paper markups, calculations, design/analysis reports, design requirements, design manuals, bill of materials, design specifications, technical specifications, component specification sheets, commissioning specifications, etc.
  • Participate in review of interfacing discipline's documentation.
  • Prepare requisitions or Engineering Quotation Requests (EQR) for equipment and materials to support procurement.
  • Interface and provide technical guidance and instruction to Designers/Drafters if required.
  • Prepare or assist preparation of scope of work and input to bid proposals.
  • Perform field walk-downs during different design phases, and prepare Walkdown reports as required.
  • Assist field construction and execution activities, such as: field changes, design revisions, commissioning, AFS, closeout, etc.; and other technical support to engineering groups at site.
  • Complete the assigned scopes or tasks within given budget and schedule, and in good quality.
  • Interface with various engineering disciplines, suppliers, and other areas of the company.
About you

Engineering Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or equivalent degree as recognized by Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO). Eligible to be registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario. Related work experience in electrical engineering and power systems design within the Nuclear industry or other heavy industrial environment is an asset. Site experience in construction, or commissioning of electrical systems for nuclear or other heavy industries would be an asset. Basic knowledge and experience of CANDU nuclear electrical power systems is considered an asset. Shall have fundamental technical knowledge to resolve engineering issues or technical problems. Shall have excellent communication and technical writing skills and good ability to interact and communicate (both verbal and in writing) professionally with colleagues, clients and contractors. Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment. Willing to become a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW).
