Position: Junior Electrical Engineer with Minerals & Metals experience

Location: Burlington, ON

The Junior Electrical Engineer manages all aspects of electrical design within project teams. This role leads projects to successfully implement designs meeting client requirements, overseeing technical solutions, job planning, and quality assurance.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Thorough knowledge of design, engineering, procurement, and construction activities.
  • Perform electrical design and calculations per Canadian and industrial standards (API, IEEE, NEC) and client preferences.
  • Support proposals, estimates, design basis, engineering estimates, and work packages during all design phases (FEED, DBM, Detailed Engineering).
  • Manage projects within budget and schedule constraints.
  • Conduct power system studies (load flow, short circuit, protective device coordination, arc flash) and prepare reports.
  • Design and review engineering deliverables such as:
    • Hazardous Area Classification Drawings
    • Single Line Diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams
    • Grounding and lighting plans, cable routing, substation layouts, cable and panel schedules
    • Equipment and cable sizing, voltage drop, lighting calculations
  • Prepare and review specifications, data sheets, bid evaluations, and procurement docs for LV/MV equipment.
  • Review and approve Inspection Test Plans and quality forms.
  • Coordinate electrical testing and commissioning onsite.
  • Respond to site RFIs per standards and codes.
  • Lead specific tasks and provide technical guidance as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of experience in Minerals & Metals.
  • Experience with engineering estimates, scheduling, and resource planning.
  • PE License in Ontario is required.
  • Experience designing LV, MV, HV power systems for industrial facilities.
  • Experience with electrical classifications for oil & gas facilities and arc flash studies.
  • AutoCAD and Plant3D skills are assets.
  • Knowledge of regulations and standards (CEC, ISA, NFPA).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively.
