We are proud to be the steward of Canadian CANDU nuclear technology and to apply our extensive knowledge to service the BWR/PWR market. Our expertise includes: Nuclear Steam Plant (NSP) engineering, Balance of Plant (BOP) engineering, Plant Life Management and Extension, Retube Tooling Systems, Inspection and Maintenance Services, Steam Generator Replacement, Plant Equipment Refurbishment and Retrofits.

As a new member of the NSP electrical engineering department, you will be involved with a variety of exciting projects supporting the design and modifications for the electrical power system for Candu and other Nuclear power plants. This role will require carrying out various duties involved with conceptual, preliminary, and detailed engineering as well as procurement support for the associated electrical power system equipment.

Duties:

This position is for a junior or entry-level person who is self-motivated and willing to develop his/her career with experience in the nuclear field. The candidate shall be able to follow the instructions from a qualified professional engineer to complete the assigned electrical-related scopes or tasks and prepare necessary engineering design documentation as required.

Duties will be carried out both independently and under the direction/guidance of a Senior Electrical Engineer Technical Lead and may include the following:

  • Perform engineering work following AtkinsRealis/Candu Energy procedures and QA programs, and applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements;
  • Coordinate and interface with client(s), suppliers, stakeholders, and other design disciplines to execute assigned engineering work;
  • Become involved in conceptual, preliminary, and/or detailed design phases to support CANDU and other Nuclear electrical systems and modifications under the supervision of a P.Eng;
  • Prepare technical documents, such as engineering drawings (including GAs, DDs, EDs), change paper markups, calculations, design/analysis reports, design requirements, design manuals, bill of materials, design specifications, technical specifications, component specification sheets, commissioning specifications, etc.;
  • Participate in the review of interfacing discipline’s documentation;
  • Prepare requisitions or Engineering Quotation Requests (EQR) for equipment and materials to support procurement;
  • Interface and provide technical guidance and instruction to Designers/Drafters if required;
  • Prepare or assist in the preparation of scope of work and input to bid proposals;
  • Perform field walk-downs during different design phases, and prepare Walkdown reports as required;
  • Assist field construction and execution activities, such as field changes, design revisions, commissioning, AFS, closeout, etc.; and provide other technical support to engineering groups at site;
  • Complete the assigned scopes or tasks within the given budget and schedule, and in good quality.

IV. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Engineering Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or equivalent degree as recognized by Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO);
  • Eligible to be registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario;
  • 2 years of related work experience in electrical engineering and power systems design for either in the Nuclear industry or other heavy industrial environments such as mining, oil & gas, power, etc.;
  • Basic knowledge and experience of CANDU nuclear electrical power systems is considered an asset;
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, such as CSA 22.1, Canadian Electrical Code Part I, and The Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC);
  • Experience in modeling electrical power systems and use of analysis functions in ETAP, or other similar software programs is an asset;
  • Shall have fundamental technical knowledge to resolve engineering issues or technical problems;
  • Shall have excellent communication and technical writing skills and good ability to interact and communicate (both verbal and in writing) professionally with colleagues, clients, and contractors;
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment;
  • Site experience in construction or commissioning of electrical systems for nuclear or other heavy industries would be an asset; and
  • Willing to become a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW).
