Job summary

Yukon Energy is seeking a Junior Draftsperson to join the Engineering and Capital Projects team in Whitehorse. You will create and manage engineering drawings across multiple disciplines using MicroStation and oversee drawing quality and revisions.

This role supports land and permitting activities, coordinates with government agencies, and acts as a Drawing Management System super-user, driving improvements to standards and workflows.

Qualifications

  • Technical diploma in drafting or engineering technology with drafting focus.
  • 3–5 years of related drafting experience in an engineering environment.
  • Proficiency with MicroStation and other CAD software.
  • Experience with Drawing Management Systems and document control.
  • Knowledge of Yukon land management and permitting is an asset.

The Opportunity: Junior Draftsperson

Permanent, Full-Time unit position, based out of Whitehorse, Yukon.

Compensation: Level 7: $40.32/hr-$48.14/hr PLUS Northern Allowance.

What will you do:

As a key member of the Engineering and Capital Projects team, you will:

  • Create and manage engineering drawings across electrical, civil, mechanical, transmission, distribution, and land-based disciplines using MicroStation, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with drafting standards.
  • Lead drawing management and quality control, including reviews and approvals, revision tracking, master drawing sets, metadata, and controlled transfers of drawing packages to and from engineering contractors.
  • Support land and permitting activities by interpreting survey and land information, preparing easement and right-of-way drawings, determining permit requirements, and coordinating applications with Yukon government agencies and other stakeholders.
  • Champion efficient drafting and records processes by serving as a Drawing Management System super-user, training colleagues, maintaining drawing and equipment records, and recommending improvements to systems, standards, and workflows.
What you need to succeed:
  • A technical diploma in drafting or engineering technology with a drafting focus, plus 3–5 years of related drafting experience in an engineering environment.
  • Demonstrated accuracy and efficiency using MicroStation and other CADD software, with the ability to interpret engineering markups, sketches, and redlines and produce construction or record drawings.
  • Experience administering Drawing Management Systems, with strong attention to detail and an understanding of document control, drawing standards, revisions, and quality assurance.
  • Knowledge and experience with Yukon land management and permitting processes, practices, and local land management considerations is an asset.
  • Proficiency with engineering and business software, including AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office, and SharePointand strong computer proficiency.
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, planning, time-management, and prioritization skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
