Job summary

Alberta Petroleum Marketing Commission (APMC) is hiring a Junior Crude Oil Marketing Representative to join the Crude Oil Marketing team in Calgary, Alberta. The role focuses on validating purchase statements, supporting scheduling and pipeline movements, and analyzing market opportunities to maximize Crown revenues.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of relevant oil and gas industry experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Review and validate crude oil purchase statements for accuracy, including volumes, base pricing, tariffs, and deductions per contract terms.
  • Assist with economic evaluations to determine optimal netback markets and verify pricing and transportation economics.
  • Investigate and resolve statement discrepancies and variances with counterparties and internal stakeholders.
  • Assist with crude oil scheduling, nominations, deliveries, pipeline movements, and other operational requirements.
  • Support market research, identify potential commercial opportunities, and prepare analyses for crude oil marketing initiatives.
  • Support contract administration activities, including maintaining contract records and pricing terms.
  • Maintain supporting documentation and audit trails for statement reviews.
  • Participate in implementing the ETRM system, including process development, testing, data validation, and user acceptance.

Jr. Crude Oil Marketing Representative

Alberta Petroleum Marketing Commission (APMC) is a Crown agent established under the Petroleum Marketing Act to enhance the value of Alberta’s petroleum resources. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Crude Oil Trading and Marketing, this position plays an important role in supporting the commercial and analytical activities of APMC’s Crude Oil Marketing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for validating crude oil purchase statements and commercial settlements, supporting crude oil scheduling and pipeline activities, monitoring volumes and market positions, and identifying discrepancies that may impact Crown revenues. The role will also work closely with the Senior Marketing Specialist to optimize lease-level crude oil volumes, evaluate transportation and market alternatives, and identify opportunities to enhance Crown netbacks.

The position provides hands‑on exposure to crude oil marketing, transportation, settlement, and commercial optimization, with the opportunity to develop strong industry expertise while working alongside experienced marketing professionals.

Responsibilities
  • Review and validate all crude oil purchase statements to ensure accuracy of volumes, base pricing, tariffs, terminal fees, pipeline loss allowance, shrinkage, equalization adjustments, blending costs, and other applicable deductions in accordance with contract terms.
  • Assist the Senior Marketing Specialist with economic evaluations to determine optimal netback markets and verify that pricing and transportation economics align with contractual and commercial expectations.
  • Investigate and resolve statement discrepancies and variances with counterparties and internal stakeholders.
  • Assist with crude oil scheduling, nominations, deliveries, pipeline movements, and other operational requirements as required to facilitate the efficient movement of crude oil.
  • Support business development activities as required, including market research, identifying potential commercial opportunities, and preparing analysis to support crude oil marketing initiatives.
  • Support contract administration activities as required, including maintaining contract records, pricing terms, and related documentation.
  • Maintain supporting documentation and audit trails for statement reviews.
  • Actively participate in the implementation of the ETRM system, including supporting process development, testing, data validation, and user acceptance activities.
Qualifications
  • Diploma or degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • 3 - 5 years of relevant experience in the oil and gas industry.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel.
  • Experience with coding and/or leveraging AI for the purpose of creating process efficiency would be considered an asset.
