Job summary

Capital Crossing Constructors, a joint venture with Webuild, Samsung C&T and Green Infrastructure Partners, is hiring a Junior Bridge Estimator for the Alexandra Bridge Replacement Project connecting Ottawa and Gatineau.

Reporting to the Chief Estimator, you will support cost estimates for bridge construction and rehabilitation, review drawings and specs, complete quantity take-offs, gather pricing, and help prepare bid documentation on major civil projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management or a related field.
• Approximately one to three years of estimating, construction or civil infrastructure experience.
• Exposure to bridge construction or major civil projects is preferred.
• Experience with quantity take-offs and interpreting drawings.
• Familiarity with concrete, reinforcing steel, foundations and earthworks.
• Proficiency with Excel and standard MS Office applications.

About the Project

The Alexandra Bridge Replacement Project is one of Canada's most significant infrastructure initiatives, replacing the existing Alexandra Bridge that has connected Ottawa, Ontario, and Gatineau, Quebec for more than 120 years. As a vital interprovincial transportation corridor within the National Capital Region, the bridge serves thousands of pedestrians, cyclists, motorists, and transit users while forming an integral part of Confederation Boulevard. Having reached the end of its service life, the existing bridge will be replaced with a modern, resilient crossing designed to meet the region's long-term transportation needs. The Alexandra Bridge Replacement Project represents a major investment in Canada's transportation infrastructure, supporting economic growth, regional connectivity, and community development while creating opportunities for skilled professionals to contribute to a landmark project that will serve Canadians for generations.

About the job

Reporting directly to the Chief Estimator, the Junior Bridge Estimator will support the preparation of accurate and competitive cost estimates for bridge construction and rehabilitation projects. The successful candidate will assist with reviewing project drawings and specifications, completing quantity take-offs, gathering pricing and preparing bid documentation. This role is ideal for an early-career professional looking to develop their estimating expertise within major bridge and civil infrastructure projects.

What you'll be doing

• Review project drawings, specifications and tender documents to understand the scope of work.
• Prepare quantity take-offs for bridge components including concrete, reinforcing steel, structural steel, foundations and earthworks.
• Assist with developing cost estimates for labour, materials, equipment and subcontractor services.
• Obtain and review quotations from suppliers, subcontractors and vendors.
• Support the preparation of competitive bids, proposals and tender submissions.
• Maintain organized records of estimates, quotations, assumptions and supporting documentation.
• Assist in identifying potential risks, cost impacts and scope gaps during the estimating process.
• Work with engineers and project teams to clarify technical requirements and design information.
• Participate in site visits, pre-bid meetings and project handover meetings as required.
• Support constructability reviews and value-engineering exercises.
• Research current material pricing, labour rates, equipment costs and market conditions.
• Assist the Chief Estimator and senior estimating team with bid reviews, estimate updates and other pre-construction activities.

What we are looking for

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management or a related field.
• Approximately one to three years of estimating, construction or civil infrastructure experience.
• Exposure to bridge construction, bridge rehabilitation or major civil infrastructure projects is preferred.
• Basic understanding of bridge construction methods, structural components, materials and specifications.
• Experience completing quantity take-offs and interpreting construction drawings.
• Familiarity with concrete, reinforcing steel, structural steel, foundations and earthworks.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and standard Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience with estimating and take-off software such as HCSS HeavyBid or Bluebeam is an asset.
• Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple deadlines.
• Eagerness to learn and develop within a bridge estimating environment.
