Job summary

Nichols Environmental (Canada) Ltd. in Edmonton, Alberta, is seeking a Junior AutoCAD Technician for a full-time, permanent role (40 hours/week) in-office.

The candidate will draft and revise technical drawings, maps, and survey plans under senior staff guidance, utilizing AutoCAD and GIS tools. The successful applicant will have 1–3 years of AutoCAD experience, strong communication, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced consulting environment.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in drafting, engineering, geomatics or a related field.
  • 1–3 years of AutoCAD experience in consulting, engineering, environmental, surveying, or related industry.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD to produce accurate technical drawings and figures.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, revise, and organize technical drawings, survey plans, field sketches, figures and maps for environmental and engineering projects.
  • Incorporate graphics and data from other software into project deliverables.
  • Provide drafting support to project teams and resolve drafting-related issues.
  • Apply company drafting standards for consistency and quality across deliverables.
  • Utilize AutoCAD, Surfer and GIS software to support project execution.
  • Collaborate with team members to meet deadlines and project requirements.
  • Review drawings for accuracy and compliance with standards.

Our Edmonton office is recruiting a Junior AutoCAD Technician to join our team of dedicated professionals and administrative staff on a full-time, permanent basis (40 hours per week).

Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education in drafting, engineering, geomatics or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience using AutoCAD in consulting, engineering, environmental, surveying, or related industry. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and the ability to produce accurate technical drawings, figures, maps and related project deliverables using survey and project data.
  • Strong communication skills – both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects.
  • Familiarity with drafting standards and technical drawing practices.
  • Experience with Civil 3D, Surfer, ArcGIS, GIS mapping, and/or Geodetic drafting is considered an asset.
  • Detail-oriented, highly organized, and eager to learn and develop technical skills in a fast-paced consulting environment.

  • Incorporate graphics and data from other software platforms into project drawings and deliverables.
  • Provide drafting support to engineering and environmental project teams and assist in identifying and resolving drafting-related issues.
  • Apply company drafting standards and templates to maintain consistency and quality across project deliverables.
  • Utilize survey data, AutoCAD, Surfer and/or GIS and related software to support project execution.
  • Collaborate with team members and provide support on a variety of projects and deadlines.
  • Communicate any project or drawing-related concerns to project managers or senior team members in a timely manner.
  • Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Organize and maintain project drawing files and associated drafting information.
  • Maintain knowledge of current AutoCAD and related software updates, features, and industry drafting standards.
  • Other duties as required.
