Job summary

Teck Resources Limited invites applicants for a Junior Accounting Analyst role at Highland Valley Copper. You will provide financial accounting support and collaborate with General Accounting, Payroll, or Accounts Payable teams on-site at the mine in British Columbia.

The successful candidate should be detail-oriented, organized, and capable of handling confidential information while working both independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• First year accounting courses (or equivalent) with a minimum grade of 65%.
• Accounting I (TRU Open Learning), Accounting II, and Introduction to Professional Writing are preferred.
• Minimum typing speed of 40 wpm and strong MS Office skills, especially Excel.

Responsibilities

• Be a courageous safety leader and follow environmental rules.
• Provide financial reporting and general accounting support.
• Contribute to full cycle Accounts Payable and payroll as needed.

About Highland Valley Copper

Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operationsis Canada’s largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.

Located approximately 17 kilometers west of Logan Lake and about 50 kilometers southwest of Kamloops in British Columbia, the surrounding areas of HVC have an abundant offering of outdoor experiences.

Role Overview

Reporting to the Supervisor, Financial Accounting, the Junior Accounting Analyst is responsible for providing financial accounting and administrative support to the finance team at our Highland Valley Copper mine. Based on your experience you could be working directly with our General Accounting, Payroll, or Accounts Payable teams.

To be successful in this role we are looking for someone with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills. Someone who can work independently as well as work well with a team and professionally manage confidential material. You are organized, have strong attention to detail, and can prioritize contending demands in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
• Complete financial reporting and general accounting support
• Contribute to full cycle Accounts Payable and or;
• Complete full cycle Payroll as needed

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Per the requirements of our Collective Agreement:
• First year level accounting/business courses (or equivalent) with a minimum grade of 65%
  • Accounting I (TRU Open Learning Course ACCT1211)
  • Accounting II (TRU Open Learning Course ACCT1221)
  • Introduction to Professional Writing (TRU Open Learning course CMNS1290)
• Minimum typing speed of 40 wpm
• Minimum three years demonstrated ability in accounting or payroll, preferably in an industrial environment
• Excellent digital literacy and proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite; particularly Excel
• Valid class 5 driver’s license, or equivalent

Hourly Wage: $45.33

Working Conditions:

• Location: Highland Valley Copper is a 50-minute drive from Kamloops, which has all of the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere.
• Access: This is a drive-in/drive-out role. Most employees commute to site by car, and carpooling is common among team members.
