Job summary

Good Shepherd – Administration, Finance is seeking a Junior Accountant to support day-to-day accounting operations including AP, AR, reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end/year-end activities.

You will maintain accurate records, prepare schedules, assist with budgets and forecasts, and support internal/external audits while upholding Good Shepherd's values and confidentiality.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 1–3 years of accounting experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in accounting principles, including AP/AR, reconciliations, journal entries, and GL processes.
  • Strong Excel and NetSuite skills; attention to detail and analytical thinking.

Responsibilities

  • Process vendor invoices with proper approvals and GL coding.
  • Maintain vendor records, reconcile statements, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Prepare and issue customer invoices, apply payments, and monitor receivables.
  • Support collections, aging analyses, and resolution of discrepancies.
  • Perform monthly reconciliations for GL, bank, and sub-ledgers.
  • Prepare schedules and documents for financial statements and audits.

Job description

Hours: Monday to Friday, based on organizational requirements.

Rate of Pay: $25.30 - $29.98 (Starting salary will be determined by relevant experience, qualifications, internal equity, and market conditions.)

How You Will Make an Impact

Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Junior Accountant supports accurate and timely day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, journal entries, month-end and year-end activities, and maintaining accurate financial records and supporting schedules.

  • Process vendor invoices, verify approvals and supporting documentation, and ensure appropriate coding to the general ledger.
  • Maintain vendor records, reconcile vendor statements, respond to supplier inquiries, and investigate or resolve discrepancies.
  • Prepare and issue customer invoices, apply payments, maintain accurate receivable records, and follow up on outstanding balances.
  • Support collections activities, aging reviews, and resolution of payment discrepancies.
  • Perform monthly reconciliations for general ledger accounts, bank accounts, and sub-ledgers.
  • Prepare account reconciliations, supporting schedules, and documentation, and investigate variances or outstanding items.
  • Prepare and post routine journal entries and assist with accruals, prepaids, and adjusting entries.
  • Maintain accurate general ledger records and ensure accounting transactions and reconciliations are completed accurately and on time.
  • Support month-end and year-end closing activities and assist with the preparation of monthly management reports.
  • Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for financial statements and other reporting requirements.
  • Support internal and external audits by organizing and providing requested financial documentation.
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities as required.
  • Maintain organized and accurate financial files, records, and supporting documentation.
  • Perform work in accordance with established accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Respond to routine accounting inquiries and collaborate with Finance team members and other departments to resolve issues and obtain required information.
  • Identify discrepancies, incomplete information, or process issues and bring them forward for appropriate follow-up.
  • Observe all Good Shepherd health and safety rules and work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and related regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What You'll Bring to Our Team
  • Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1–3 years of accounting experience is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of accounting principles and practices, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger processes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and NetSuite is required.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational, communication, computer, interpersonal, and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise professionalism and integrity, and work collaboratively with Finance team members and other departments.
  • Ability to identify discrepancies, incomplete information, and process issues and bring them forward for appropriate follow-up.
  • Ability to follow established accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
