Job description

Legacy Accounting LLP strives to deliver excellent service to small and medium-sized businesses and individuals in central Alberta.


We need to add a junior accountant to our team of dedicated staff. We are looking for a self-motivated team player with experience in public practice, and an interest in pursuing a career in client service. The position is for in-person work at our Red Deer or Didsbury, AB office.


Preference will be given to candidates with strong communication and technical skills, knowledge of CaseWare, Taxprep, and Microsoft Office and the ability to manage a client growing workload. Candidates with prior public practice accounting experience are preferred.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct compilation and tax engagements
  • Prepare financial statements and corresponding notes
  • Prepare personal, trust and corporate tax returns (and other tax compliance slips) ensuring compliance with government standards
  • Prepare year-end tax forms (T4s and T5s)
  • Complete bank and other account reconciliations
  • Prepare payroll, GST and government reports
  • Identify technical issues and discuss with manager or engagement partner
  • Update manager or engagement partner on the progress of engagements
  • Set-up files for new clients and newly incorporated businesses
  • Develop a thorough understanding of Legacy’s services and the businesses and industries we serve.
  • Contribute to the development of new ideas and approaches to improve work processes

Skills and Experience

    • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new software with ease

    • Ability to work both independently, with little supervision and within a team environment
    • Effectively monitors multiple projects regularly to check how they are progressing against deadlines and budget
    • Experimental and forward thinking with a passion for innovation
    • Dedication and motivation to achieve high standards of client service and professionalism
    • Experience working with, or exposure to, accounting and tax software such as Caseware, Taxprep, Quickbooks, Sage and QBO is beneficial
    • Strong computer literacy including effective working skills of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Office 365
    • Strong working knowledge of corporate and personal income taxes
  • Preferred qualifications:
    • Business Administration Diploma, Accounting Major
    • 1 to 2 years of relevant work experience in public practice in Canada

The expected salary for this position is $40,000-$55,000 per year for 2,000 hours and is based on the applicant’s skills and experience.
