Junior Accountant

McKeil Marine is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Junior Accountant to join our finance team on a full-time permanent basis out of our Burlington location. This entry-level position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to kickstart their career in accounting within a dynamic and fast-paced marine transportation company. The successful candidate will assist in various accounting tasks and gain valuable experience in financial reporting, analysis, and general accounting processes.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with company policies.
  • Perform General Ledger account reconciliations on a monthly basis.
  • Perform basic and intermediate accounting entries.
  • Full cycle accounts receivable and accounts payable.
  • Assist with ad hoc analysis and reporting as assigned by management.
  • Month-End and Year-End Processes: You’ll support month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring that financial records are reconciled, accurate, and up-to-date.
  • Assist with internal and external audits, providing documentation and support as required.
  • Collaborate with Finance and other departments to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data.
  • Stay informed about changes in accounting regulations and industry standards, and ensure compliance.
Minimum Qualifications, Skills and Key Competencies Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and working towards CPA designation or certification is an asset.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in accounting or finance roles with experience in A/R and A/P cycles.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Business Central, Python and Power BI is an asset.
  • Familiarity working with MS Power Platform suite of products in addition to generative AI products beyond CoPilot.
  • Strong Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Experience in the marine transportation or logistics industry is preferred but not required.
Working Conditions / Special Notes
  • McKeil Marine Limited is a 24 / 7 operating business, this role will require after hours support for emergencies when business requirements dictate with regular on-call rotation.
  • The ability to work remotely at home as outlined by current Hybrid WFH protocols and policies.
