Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY:

An Operator requires familiarity with equipment, procedures, products, and the risk and safety issues associated with the job and environment. The individual identifies deficiencies and recommends or performs corrections to assets and procedures to meet performance standards. With increasing experience, the role involves more complex tasks combined with higher levels of decision-making and may involve providing guidance and leadership to more junior colleagues.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Performs tasks as assigned by the Operations Manager in a timely and professional manner and displays a maturity to work with minimal supervision.
  2. With increasing experience, provides technical guidance and solutions to processing or maintenance decisions.
  3. Takes ownership of their actions and pride in the facility through excellent housekeeping and a focus on quality.
  4. Functions as part of a team and works well with others.
  5. Regularly attends safety meetings and ensures incidents are reported.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
  1. Experience working in an operating role, preferably in residuals management, wastewater treatment, or relevant industry.
  2. Able to effectively and accurately complete daily reports, maintenance work orders, incident reports, and other documentation using various software applications.
  3. Experience working with any of the following: thermal dryers, anaerobic digesters, centrifuges, gravity belt thickeners, or water treatment laboratory equipment, considered an asset.
  4. Demonstrates successful troubleshooting techniques or repair estimates on equipment, and shows insight into the root cause of problems to generate solutions.
  5. Ability to capture accurate and consistent product samples and perform preliminary laboratory analysis.
  6. Ability to read and comprehend instructional manuals, instruction sheets, technical data, work orders, and mechanical drawings in English.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  1. Minimum high school diploma required; additional training in a process, chemical, or mechanical program considered an asset.
  2. Operating years’ experience considered an asset and counted towards seniority.
  3. Biosolids knowledge preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  1. Ability to work varying shifts, overtime, holidays, on-call duty, and emergency call-ins.
  2. Ability to move about all areas of the plant, including catwalks, deck grating, and uneven surfaces utilizing ladders when necessary.
  3. Talking, hearing, seeing, sitting, standing, walking, and lifting up to 25 kgs.
  4. Ability to access confined spaces for general cleaning and inspections.
  5. The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
  6. The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions: fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
  7. The worker is subject to hazards: proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or bio-solids.
