Lab Operations Specialist

Apex Systems is a large staffing and consulting firm and we are looking for a Lab Operations Specialist with a Life Science/Biochemistry background with some experience with managing documentation, supporting batch records, and helping with shipping/receiving to place at our Biopharma client.

Contract/Perm & duration: 1-year (Potential for Extension or Conversion)

*5 days/week onsite*

Location: Downtown Toronto

The Laboratory Operations Specialist will be supporting the manufacturing team and maintain adequate inventory, batch records, records of inventory, receiving and distribution of goods, records of distribution, including records of costs and pricing for all items of laboratory inventory items and occasionally support lab operations with general equipment maintenance and service. With limited supervision, this position will ensure the manufacturing lab is running smoothly and that all scientific projects are able to proceed without issue. They will communicate directly with senior scientists, the accounts payable department, and department directors.

Responsibilities:

• Weekly inventory checks on laboratory stock
• Ensuring the laboratory is well-stocked and functioning smoothly
• Management of batch records
• Supervising weekly deliveries of highly important materials – e.g. liquid nitrogen
• Communicating with senior scientists and their teams regarding necessary documentation including logbooks for manufacturing processes
• Communicating with shipping and receiving of goods
• Collaborating closely with the Supply Chain Management and Procurement teams to ensure Manufacturing team is supported
• Other responsibilities as needed

Key Qualifications:

• Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in the life sciences is required
• 1-2+ years of experience in a laboratory setting (Co-op experience is encouraged)
• Experience in an operations capacity supporting logbooks, batch records, shipping/receiving etc.
• Experience using PPE and best lab practices
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Strong attention-to-detail
• Comfort in a high-paced work environment, where you may be asked to wear many hats
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize
• Collaborative style coupled with can-do attitude
• Experience with Microsoft 365 suite is an asset
