Job description

West Fraser offers a range of exciting career opportunities for individuals seeking challenging and rewarding careers. Our Division in Hinton, AB, is currently recruiting for a Journeyperson Welder.

You Will Do:

  • Maintaining a safe work environment
  • Read blueprints, diagrams, and schematic drawings to repair equipment
  • Operate hoisting and lifting devices to position machinery and parts during the assembly, installation, set-up and repair of equipment and machinery
  • Inspect equipment for cracks using mag particle and dye penetrant testing
  • Weld repair various types of Sawmill and Planer equipment including conveyors, hydraulic lines, chutes, hoppers and tanks, using SMAW, GMAW, air arcing and grinding equipment
  • Fabricate, install, and repair structural steel assemblies and components.

You Will Have:

  • A proactive attitude towards safety
  • A valid Inter-Provincial or Provincial Journeyperson Welding Certification
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's license
  • Be capable of passing all positions of CWB testing for SMAW
  • Be familiar with interpreting engineered welding procedures
  • Be familiar with mag particle and dye penetrant testing processes
  • Be able to climb onto, into, over equipment, use ladders and work at heights
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision
  • Flexible schedule to work weekends
  • Strong working knowledge of sawmill & planer equipment will be an asset
  • Use knowledge and skills to recognize opportunities for improvements and savings
  • Aerial work platform and fall arrest training will be an asset.

Compensation Package:

  • The hourly pay rate for this position may vary depending on experience, education, and location.
