Job summary

Aecon Group Inc. is looking for a Journeyman, Substations in Cambridge to install and maintain electrical systems. Responsibilities include line maintenance, operation of heavy equipment, and compliance with safety standards.

Opportunity

Aecon Utilities is a North American utility infrastructure provider that delivers projects across electrical, telecommunications, pipeline distribution, and renewable energy markets. The role is Journeyman, Substations, responsible for installing and maintaining overhead, underground, transmission, and distribution systems.

Responsibilities
  • Perform line maintenance in a safe efficient manner using de-energized, live line hot stick or live line barehand techniques on voltages up to and including 500 kV.
  • Operate heavy and tracked equipment including radial arm diggers, line trucks, cranes, and all terrain equipment (Foremost) as required.
  • Operate and maintain hand tools such as blocks, grips, jacks, hot line tools, and cover up.
  • Read and interpret blueprints or process specifications.
  • Instruct and train junior personnel on duties, safe work practices, and equipment use.
  • Maintain personal and group safety at all times, exercising caution when working with tension for rigging or on or close to energized equipment.
  • Respond to unscheduled outages caused by weather, component failures, vehicular accidents, etc.
  • Be a positive team member through open communication and active participation in crew tasks.
  • Ensure compliance with Aecon Health & Safety and Environmental Manual.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
  • Availability to travel and work on projects across Canada.
  • Able to work a 21‑hour and 7‑hour shift out of town.
Qualifications
  • Journeyman Power Lineperson Apprenticeship and Trade Certificate.
  • Minimum 2 years of utility experience constructing, installing, and maintaining overhead, underground, transmission, and distribution systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of Provincial Electrical Utilities Regulations and provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations, and Codes.
  • Ability to climb, work on towers and poles, and work at heights and in extreme weather conditions for extended periods.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and work effectively on teams with a focus on excellent customer service.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, develop and plan projects for self and others.
  • Self‑starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal, team participation, and communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.
Compensation

The expected hourly wage for this position is $80 – $85 per hour per the current Collective Agreement. Individual pay is determined based on work location, education, experience, and unique skills.
