Job summary

West Fraser's Cariboo Pulp Ltd. facility in Quesnel, BC is recruiting a Journeyperson Pipefitter for on-site maintenance.

The role involves troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and safe operation of all machinery within the pulp mill, under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor. You will repair equipment, read drawings to determine pipe layout, select appropriate pipe type and size, and install support equipment.

Qualifications

  • Journeyperson Pipefitter certification and status.
  • Must have heavy industry experience.
  • Commitment to working safely in a potentially hazardous environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Perform equipment repairs within planned time frames and complete related records.
  • Read and interpret drawings, specifications, and codes to determine pipe layout and tools.
  • Select suitable pipe type and size based on system operation knowledge.
  • Install support equipment such as hangers, brackets, pneumatic equipment, and hydraulic cylinders.
  • Inspect worksite for obstructions; repair or modify designs as needed.
  • Cut pipes using handheld and power tools; use cutting torch and pipe cutter.

Description

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Pipefitter will be a key player in a company-wide continuous improvement effort through daily use of troubleshooting and predictive, preventative maintenance strategies. As a member of this high performing team you will be responsible for working safely with all machinery within the pulp mill.

You’ll Do
  • Performing equipment repairs within planned time frames and completing the related record-keeping
  • Reading and interpreting drawings, specifications, and codes to determine layout, type and size of pipe, and tools to use
  • Applying knowledge of system operation to select the most suitable pipe type and size
  • According to specifications, install support equipment like hangers, brackets, pneumatic equipment, and hydraulic cylinders
  • Inspect the worksite to ensure no obstructions to the pipe and if there are any holes or interference, repair or modify the design
  • Cutting pipes using handheld and power tools like hammer and chisel, cutting torch, pipe cutter, and pipe cutting machine
  • Threading and bending pipes using pipe bending tools and threading machines
  • Assembling and installing tubes, fittings, and non-metallic attachments.
  • Joining pipes using threads, soldering, welding, brazing, or cemented connections
  • Checking systems for leaks
  • Inspecting piping systems and machinery to detect machinery malfunctions
You have
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Heavy industry experience
  • Commitment to working safely and creating a safe work place
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work independently with little supervision
Compensation Package

The hourly pay rate for this position will follow the collective agreement between Unifor 1115 and Cariboo Pulp Ltd. at the current rate of 48.66/hour.

Outstanding benefits package including medical, dental, pension, life insurance, disability, accident insurance, vacation, and holidays.
