Job summary

Komatsu America Corp. seeks a Journeyperson Light Duty Mechanic transitioning to Heavy-Duty Mechanic Apprenticeship in Sparwood, BC. You will learn to inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mining equipment in a field-service role under experienced HD mechanics.

Reports to a supervisor with a 7x7 shift, some travel up to 25%, and safety-sensitive requirements. This is an onsite posting with relocation not offered. AI may assist scheduling but not screening.

Qualifications

• Journeyperson Automotive Service Technician with interest in pursuing a Heavy-Duty Mechanic certification.
• Experience in automotive, heavy equipment, construction, agricultural, or related environments.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, service information, and repair procedures.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in maintenance, repair, service, and inspection of mining equipment under guidance of qualified Heavy Duty Mechanics.
• Learn to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
• Support repair or replacement of defective parts at customer sites.
• Assist with testing repaired equipment to verify operation and performance.
• Use precision measuring instruments to measure components and tolerances.
• Participate in on-the-job training and apprenticeship development.
• Collaborate with mechanics, apprentices, supervisors, and customers in shop and field environments.

Job Overview

Are you an Automotive Service Technician looking to expand your skills and build a career in the mining industry? We're looking for a safety-focused, mechanically inclined individual who is eager to transition into a Heavy-Duty Mechanic Apprenticeship and develop expertise working on some of the world's largest mining equipment. In this role, you'll work alongside experienced Heavy Duty Mechanics in a field service environment, learning to inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mining equipment while gaining valuable hands-on experience toward your HDM certification. Reports to: Supervisor, Field Service
Shift: 7x7, rotation of days/nights
Allowances: Additional allowances may be associated with this position due to location
Safety Sensitive: Yes - drug & alcohol testing, physical demand fit testing, RCMP criminal record check and submission of 5-year provincial driving record will be required

Key Job Responsibilities

• Assist in the maintenance, repair, service, and inspection of mining equipment under the guidance of qualified Heavy Duty Mechanics
• Learn to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
• Support the repair or replacement of defective equipment parts, components, and systems at customer sites
• Assist with testing repaired equipment to verify proper operation and performance
• Utilize precision measuring instruments, including micrometers and calipers, to measure components and tolerances
• Participate in on-the-job training and apprenticeship development activities
• Collaborate with mechanics, apprentices, supervisors, and customers in both shop and field environments

Qualifications/Requirements

• Journeyperson Automotive Service Technician with a strong interest in pursuing a Heavy-Duty Mechanic certification required
• Previous mechanical experience gained through automotive, heavy equipment, construction, agricultural, industrial, or related environments
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn heavy equipment systems
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, service information, and repair procedures
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Comfortable working in outdoor and field-service environments
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Eligible for access to mine sites with no restrictions
• Strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous learning
• Physically capable of safely lifting up to 50 lbs unassisted
• Valid class 5driver's license
