Job summary

Komatsu Canada is seeking a Journeyperson Heavy Duty Mechanic for the National Service Group (NSG). The role involves assembling large mining equipment, traveling across Canada for project-based work, and working on big builds at remote sites with 7x7 or 14x14 shifts.

Travel up to 50% within Canada and potential USA work are expected. A Red Seal Journeyperson Heavy Duty Mechanic or Millwright is required, with a valid driver's license and ability to lift 50 lbs safely. Relocation is not offered.

Qualifications

  • Red Seal Journeyperson Heavy Duty Mechanic or Millwright is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and commission P&H shovels, drills, and loaders per OEM specs.
  • Perform mechanical installation, adjustment, alignment, and testing.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic issues.
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, lifting devices, and mobile equipment.
  • Read and interpret drawings, service manuals, and work instructions.
  • Collaborate with supervisors, planners, electricians, welders, and customers.

Job Overview

You’ll work on big builds, remote sites, and high‑impact projects that few tradespeople ever get to experience. Reports to: Project Superintendent
Shifts: 7x7 or 14x14, 8-12h a day
Location: Our office is based in Edmonton, but this role will travel all over Canada for project based work
Allowances: Additional premiums and allowances are associated with this position
Safety Sensitive: Yes- drug & alcohol testing, physical demand fit testing, RCMP criminal record check and submission of 5-year provincial driving record will be required
Travel: up to 50% within Canada and potentially the USA
Relocation: This position does not offer relocation

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Assemble and commission P&H shovels, drills, and loaders in accordance with OEM specifications
  • Perform mechanical installation, adjustment, alignment, and functional testing of heavy mining equipment
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and related equipment issues
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, lifting devices, and mobile equipment as required
  • Read and interpret drawings, service manuals, assembly procedures, and work instructions
  • Collaborate effectively with supervisors, planners, electricians, welders, and customer representatives
Qualifications/Requirements
  • Red Seal Journeyperson Heavy Duty Mechanic or Millwright ticked required
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, precision measurement instruments, and lifting equipment
  • Experience assembling, maintaining, or repairing mining equipment
  • Previous experience with P&H shovels, drills, loaders, or other large mining equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manuals
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to access any mine site without restrictions
  • Able to lift 50lbs safely
