The Opportunity

The Fleet Services Branch within the Ministry of Highways is currently seeking highly motivated Journeyperson Mechanics to work throughout the province. Under the direction of the Shop Supervisor, you will maintain, repair, and modify all types of trucks, highway construction and maintenance equipment, light vehicles, and other equipment used in highway maintenance and construction.

In this position, you will :

  1. Conduct preventative maintenance inspections on all types of trucks and equipment, both in the shop and in the field.
  2. Diagnose equipment problems using mechanical, electrical, and computerized test equipment; determine repair methods, costs, and time estimates.
  3. Repair equipment including mechanical, fuel, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems by replacing, fabricating, or revising parts and components.
  4. Perform maintenance tasks such as fluid/filter changes, brake replacements, exhaust system repairs, hydraulic hose replacements, etc.
  5. Develop or modify existing equipment or systems as assigned.
  6. Enter and retrieve data on the computer.
  7. Travel as required, with the possibility of overnight stays.

Our Ideal Candidate

To qualify, you must possess a valid Journeyperson Certificate recognized by the Province of Saskatchewan in one of the following trades :

  • Truck and Transport Mechanic
  • Agricultural Machinery Technician

Candidates in their 3rd or 4th year of apprenticeship in these trades may also be considered. Successful applicants will either hold a valid certificate or be able to upgrade within the probationary period.
