The Opportunity

The Fleet Services Branch within the Ministry of Highways is seeking a highly motivated Journeyperson Mechanic to work throughout the province. Under the direction of the Shop Supervisor, you will maintain, repair, and modify trucks, highway construction and maintenance equipment, light vehicles, and other equipment used in highway maintenance and construction.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct preventative maintenance inspections on trucks and equipment both in the shop and in the field.
  • Diagnose equipment problems using mechanical, electrical, and computerized test equipment; determine repair methods, costs, and time.
  • Repair equipment, including mechanical, fuel, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as fluid and filter changes, brake replacements, exhaust system repairs, hydraulic hose replacements, etc.
  • Develop or modify equipment or systems as assigned.
  • Enter and retrieve data using computer systems.
  • Travel with possible overnight stays.

Ideal Candidate

Must possess a valid Journeyperson Certificate recognized by Saskatchewan in one of the following trades:

  • Truck and Transport Mechanic; or
  • Agricultural Machinery Technician.

Candidates in their 3rd or 4th year of apprenticeship in these trades may also be considered. A valid class 3A driver’s license or the ability to upgrade within the probationary period is required.
