Job summary

Rolling Mix Concrete is seeking a certified Journeyperson Mechanic to join our shop team in Edmonton. Reporting to the Shop Manager, the Journeyperson HD Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of our fleet of ready-mix concrete trucks, heavy equipment, and support vehicles.

This hands‑on role keeps our fleet safe, compliant, and on the road. Responsibilities include diagnostics and repairs on trucks, engines, brakes, electrical and hydraulic systems, CVIP inspections,

Qualifications

  • Valid Alberta Journeyperson certification as a Heavy Equipment Technician or Truck and Transport Mechanic (Red Seal endorsement is an asset).
  • Experience maintaining and repairing heavy-duty trucks and/or off-road equipment; CVIP inspections are part of the role.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on ready-mix concrete trucks and heavy equipment.
  • Diagnose engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical systems, and hydraulic components.
  • Complete CVIP inspections per Alberta regulations.
  • Troubleshoot hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic control systems; use diagnostic tools.
  • Welding and fabrication as required; maintain accurate work orders and records.
  • Prioritize repairs with Shop Manager to minimize downtime.
  • Mentor apprentices in the shop; ensure a safe work area.

Position Overview

Rolling Mix Concrete is seeking a certified Journeyperson Mechanic to join our shop team in Edmonton. Reporting to the Shop Manager, the Journeyperson HD Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of our fleet of ready-mix concrete trucks, heavy equipment, and support vehicles. This is a hands‑on role critical to keeping our fleet safe, compliant, and on the road — our operations depend on well‑maintained equipment, and this position is at the heart of that.

Responsibilities
  • Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on ready‑mix concrete trucks (including mixer drums, chutes, and hydraulic systems), loaders, and other heavy equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair engines, transmissions, differentials, brake systems (air and hydraulic), electrical systems, suspension, and steering components.
  • Complete Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program (CVIP) inspections in accordance with Alberta regulations.
  • Troubleshoot hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic control systems, including the use of diagnostic software and scan tools.
  • Perform welding and fabrication repairs as required.
  • Complete accurate and timely work orders, inspection reports, and maintenance records in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Prioritize repairs in coordination with the Shop Manager, Driver Supervisors, and Dispatch to minimize fleet downtime.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, and ensure tools and shop equipment are in good working condition.
  • Comply with all RMC safety policies, Alberta OHS legislation, and safe work procedures, including lock‑out/tag‑out and working around rotating drum equipment.
  • Mentor and support apprentices in the shop, as applicable.
  • Safely operate service truck for emergency truck repairs
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and secure work area at all times.
  • Use the Teams chat when requesting parts and tools, communicating effectively with the Parts Team and other key stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Valid Alberta Journeyperson certification as a Heavy Equipment Technician or Truck and Transport Mechanic (Red Seal endorsement is an asset).
  • Proven experience maintaining and repairing heavy‑duty trucks and/or off‑road equipment; experience with ready‑mix or vocational fleets is a strong asset
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills across mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, service manuals, and technical documentation.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's licence with a clean driver's abstract; Class 1 or 3 with air brake endorsement (Q) is an asset.
  • Physical ability to perform the demands of the role, including lifting up to 50 lbs, working at heights, and working in confined spaces around equipment.
  • CVIP inspection licence is preferred.
  • Experience with fleet maintenance software is an asset.
  • First Aid/CPR certification is preferred.

Hours of Work
  • A rotating schedule of a 1 week on days followed by 1 week on afternoons.
  • Shifts are approximately 8-10 hours in length and span Monday – Friday with a rotating Saturday schedule.
Work Environment:
  • Shop-based position at our Edmonton West facility, with occasional field service calls.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times, including CSA‑approved steel‑toed boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, and gloves; task‑specific PPE will be provided
  • This is moderately strenuous work. Mechanics frequently lift material up to 50 lbs.
