Tasks:

1. Read blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine the layout of plumbing, water supply, waste, and drainage systems.
2. Locate and mark positions for pipe connections, passage holes, and fixtures in walls and floors.
3. Cut openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipes and fittings.
4. Join pipes using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, soldering, brazing, or welding equipment.
5. Test pipes for leaks using pressure gauges.
6. Determine piping system requirements and pipe sizing.
7. Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipes to required shapes and sizes.
8. Connect piping using welding and brazing equipment.
9. Lay out reference points for installation.
10. Handle, recover, and store refrigerants.
11. Coach and instruct apprentices.
12. Assemble and install refrigeration or air conditioning components.
13. Provide customer service.
14. Make adjustments and minor repairs to systems; contact tradespersons for major repairs.
15. Start up systems and test for leaks.
16. Perform maintenance such as recharging refrigerant, checking regulators, or calibrating systems.
17. Repair and replace parts in refrigeration, air conditioning, ventilation, or heat pump systems.
18. Complete Level one and Level three apprenticeship training.
