We are currently seeking to add a Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our team based in Leduc, AB.

The Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic performs skilled tasks in the mechanical servicing, repair, and maintenance of KBL’s long haul fleet equipment (trucks and trailers). The mechanic will troubleshoot major and minor mechanical problems, repair and adjust all necessary mechanical components, and maintain detailed records. This position also involves apprenticing 1st to 4th year Heavy Duty Mechanic’s Apprentices.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Services on all equipment:

• Work with Maintenance Supervisor to schedule required servicing to maximize efficiency and minimize downtime;
• Complete necessary repairs and required maintenance as per the scheduled servicing;
• Accurate and timely completion of work orders, including time and parts per repair;
• Task mechanics apprentices with duties for both types of service within their competency;
• Ensure Service A and Service B documentation is completed in detail and on time;
• Collect oil samples.

Commercial Vehicle Inspection:

• Inspect equipment as per commercial vehicle inspection guidelines;
• Repair, overhaul, and maintain components that are broken or out of specification;
• Complete all documentation and file according to regulations;
• Ensure supply of “CVIP” stickers for inspected equipment.

Hot Work:

• Perform welding on nonstructural and non-frame components;
• Grinding and cutting with grinder;
• Use oxy-acetylene torch;
• General metal working.

Shop Maintenance:

• Manage shop cleanliness and organize tools;
• Manage waste and maintain a clean yard;
• Assist with parts and inventory management.

Health and Safety:

• Follow all safety management systems and practices;
• Report unsafe conditions or incidents;

Qualifications:

• Journeyman’s Heavy-Duty Mechanic Red Seal;
• Minimum 3 years’ experience on heavy trucks and trailers;
• Valid Driver’s License and clean Driver’s Abstract;
• Strong communication skills;
• Knowledge of hydraulic and bulk solids equipment (asset);
• Inventory management knowledge;
• Self-motivated and willing to work overtime if needed.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 75 lbs, and perform physical tasks as required.

Working Environment:

Some overtime, travel for roadside repairs, exposure to noise, high temperatures, fumes, and chemicals.
