Job summary

PTW Energy Services seeks a Local Journeyman Instrumentation Technician for our Peace River team. You will install, test, and calibrate instrumentation, electrical, and control systems, including CEMS, while maintaining strict safety standards.

Responsibilities include reading P&IDs and schematics, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring high-quality, compliant work. Valid safety certifications and a valid driver’s license are required.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman Instrumentation Technician certification required; Red Seal preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial instrumentation and electrical principles.
  • Experience with testing and calibration equipment (multimeters, loop calibrators, oscilloscopes).
  • Ability to read P&IDs, electrical schematics, and control drawings.
  • Valid H2S Alive, Fall Protection, First Aid, and CSTS 2020.
  • Experience with PLCs, DCS, and HMI systems.

Responsibilities

  • Install, test, and calibrate instrumentation and control systems including CEMS.
  • Support and maintain power generation and industrial equipment.
  • Read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and drawings.
  • Coordinate with operations, maintenance, engineering, and contractors.
  • Ensure safety and regulatory compliance in all tasks.
  • Communicate equipment status and safety concerns clearly.

Role Summary:

We are seeking a Local Journeyman Instrumentation Technician to join our team in Peace River. The Instrumentation Journeyman is committed to delivering safe, high-quality work that meets and exceeds client expectations. This role requires a strong focus on safety, and customer satisfaction, along with proven experience producing accurate, detail-oriented work in support of client needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Install, test, and calibrate industrial instrumentation, electrical, and control systems, including continuous emissions monitoring (CEMS)
  • Perform installation and calibration, of process control instrumentation such as transmitters, analyzers, control valves, controllers, PLCs, and protective relays
  • Support and maintain power generation and industrial equipment, including gas turbines, generators, and plant auxiliary systems
  • Read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, control system drawings, manuals, and technical documentation
  • Coordinate with operations, maintenance, engineering teams, and external contractors during installations, start-ups, and shutdowns
  • Communicate equipment condition, safety concerns, and job status clearly to operations and supervision
  • Perform all work in compliance with Health & Safety standards, OHS regulations, and company policies
  • Other duties as required
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Journeyman Instrumentation Technician certificate; Red Seal Instrumentation Technician certification preferred
  • Strong knowledge of industrial instrumentation, electrical principles, voltage/current relationships
  • Valid H2S Alive, Fall Protection, Standard First Aid (Level A or C with CPR/AED), and CSTS 2020
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs, DCS, and HMI systems (programming and troubleshooting)
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and P&IDs
  • Experience in gas plants, power plants, or industrial manufacturing environments
  • Proficient with test and calibration equipment (multimeters, loop calibrators, oscilloscopes)
  • Skilled using hand tools and electrical tools for installation and maintenance
  • Strong communication, documentation, and teamwork skills
  • Valid driver's licence
  • Flexible availability for shift work, overtime, and weekends, with a strong focus on safety and self-direction
Compensation & Benefits:
  • Shift: Various shift schedules available
  • Working Hours: Opportunity to work 8 to 12 hours per day based on workload requirements
  • Overtime: Overtime opportunities may be available on an occasional basis
  • Apprentices: Support is provided for apprenticeship programs and completion of required hours
