Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience as Heavy Equipment Technician or Heavy Duty Mechanic.

Paid Well

We offer more than just an hourly wage—we provide a comprehensive compensation package designed to support your well-being and reward your skills. This includes health and dental coverage, vision and life insurance, and access to our Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP). The journeyman wage starts at $41.36 per hour. Additional compensation is available for relevant licenses, certifications, specialized training, and shift differentials.

The role - 4 x 10 hour days per week, the rotation is a day shift and will include some Saturdays

Problem Solving – 20% of your time is spent here

  • Get a clear understanding of the problem from the detailed notes provided by Service Advisors.
  • Using our state-of-the-art tools, diagnose complex engines, transmissions, hydraulics, electrical, and electronic systems.
  • Interpret the diagnostics, document your findings, and establish timelines for repair.

Repair – 70% of your time is spent here

  • Hands-on work: get in there and fix it.
  • Test vehicles to ensure they meet safety standards and are running properly.
  • Coordinate with back counter parts and technicians to ensure parts for repairs are in stock or ordered.

Reports and training – 10% and it's important!

  • Keep close track of your time and document everything done to repair the problem.
  • Engage in continuous upskilling and development through in-house training programs to stay current with the latest technology in trucking and to advance your career at New West.

Education/Certification

  • Journeyman Red Seal Heavy Equipment Certificate.
  • CVIP license is an asset.
  • Class 1 or Class 3 driver’s license is an asset.

Experience

  • 5+ years working as Heavy Equipment Technician or Heavy Duty Mechanic with Freightliner experience.
  • Detroit engine experience is a major asset.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, manuals, and diagnostic codes.
