Job summary

The City of Edmonton seeks a Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, repair and overhaul vehicles and equipment, leveraging state-of-the-art facilities and a collaborative team. Apprentices receive training from technical mentors to reach journeyperson expertise while supporting evolving fuel technologies.

The role emphasizes safety, documentation, and contributing to fleet maintenance programs across diverse environments, with opportunities to train apprentices.

Qualifications

• Alberta-qualified apprentice to 3rd year Truck & Transport Technician, or 4th year Heavy Equipment Technician and IHET student will be considered.
• Journeyperson: Alberta Journeyperson in the trade of Heavy Duty Mechanic/Technician, Interprovincial Red Seal preferred.
• Some Heavy Duty Mechanic/Technician experience with electrical systems and controls, air brakes and engines.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections, preventive maintenance, minor and heavy repair on engines, electrical systems, powertrain, brakes, steering, suspension, transmissions, fueling and other systems.
• Follow manufacturer manuals and shop instructions.
