Job summary

Barrick Gold is seeking a Journeyman Electrician for the Hemlo Mine site near Marathon, Ontario. You will maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical infrastructure across underground and surface operations, including high-voltage work and control systems, while collaborating with multiple teams to minimize downtime and promote safety.

The role requires a valid Ontario 309A license, experience with HV systems, and the ability to work rotating day/night shifts on a 7/7 schedule.

Qualifications

• Ontario 309A Electrical License required (Construction & Maintenance).
• Experience with 13.8 kV, 4160V, 600V systems including installation/repair.
• Underground and surface electrical systems experience or ability to obtain.
• Strong safety culture and ability to read electrical drawings/schematics.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems underground and surface.
• Follow preventive maintenance plans for reliability and availability.
• Perform high-voltage switching, testing, isolation, and cable terminations (13.8 kV splices).
• Troubleshoot control systems including VFDs, soft starters, PLCs, and networks.
• Conduct operational checks to ensure compliance with standards.
• Identify, organize, and secure materials, tools, and services for maintenance.
• Report hazards and take corrective action; participate in safety meetings.
• Support mill and underground operations to meet production targets.
• Coordinate with supervisors and departments on work priorities.
• Provide mentorship to apprentices and team members on safe practices.
• Maintain housekeeping and contribute to continuous improvement.

JOURNEYMAN ELECTRICIAN

Position Description:

Reporting to the Electrical Supervisor, the Journeyman Electrician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical infrastructure throughout the Hemlo Mine site, including both underground and surface operations. This role ensures safe, efficient, and compliant electrical systems supporting production and maintenance across the mill, crushing, hoisting, underground, and process areas. The incumbent will work collaboratively with multiple departments to minimize downtime, ensure reliability, and promote a strong safety culture.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems, components, and infrastructure across both underground and surface operations.
• Adhere to preventive maintenance plans to ensure equipment reliability and resource availability.
• Perform high-voltage switching, testing, isolation, and cable terminations (including 13.8 kV splices and stress cone applications) following safe work procedures.
• Troubleshoot control systems including VFDs, soft starters, PLCs, and associated communication networks.
• Conduct operational checks and inspections to ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards.
• Identify, organize, and secure materials, tools, and services to support planned and corrective maintenance activities.
• Report hazards, unsafe conditions, and deficiencies; take immediate corrective action where possible.
• Participate in daily safety meetings and communicate potential hazards or process improvement opportunities.
• Support mill and underground operations to achieve production targets by responding promptly to equipment failures.
• Collaborate with Supervisors, Superintendents, and other departments to coordinate work priorities and scheduling.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to apprentices and team members, promoting safe and efficient electrical practices.
• Maintain housekeeping standards and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:

• Valid Electrical License in the Province of Ontario (Construction & Maintenance 309A) required.
• Basic Underground and Surface Common Core required or ability to obtain.
• Demonstrated experience with 13.8 kV, 4160V, 600V systems, including installation and repair.
• Experience working with Mine hoisting Plants, Motor Control Centers, Benshaw soft starters, Yaskawa,VFD's, GE RX3I PLC's, and Kone Cranes an asset.
• Strong understanding of high-voltage industrial systems and electrical distribution.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
• Familiarity with SAP for maintenance work orders or willingness to learn.
• Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and analytical skills with attention to safety and detail.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work independently in remote or confined environments.
• Physical capability to work in all environments, including underground, confined spaces, and at heights, while lifting and handling equipment over 50 lbs.
• Adaptability to challenging conditions, including temperature extremes, noise, and environmental factors.
• Willingness and ability to work rotating day/night shift schedules.

This position operates on a 7/7 rotation with 12-hour day and night shifts. Preference will be given to candidates who reside locally and can work on a residential schedule.
