Qualifications

• Journeyman Carpenter Certificate from a recognized provincial training authority.
• RED SEAL certification is an asset.
• Must have formwork experience.
• Able to accurately read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches.
• Practical knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures.

Responsibilities

• Reads and interprets blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements.
• Prepares layouts in conformance to building codes.
• Demonstrates skill in the safe operation of shop tools.
• Measures, cuts, shapes, assembles and joins materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials.
• Builds foundations, install floor beams, lays subflooring, and erects walls and roof systems.
• Fits and installs trim items such as doors, stairs, moulding and hardware.
• Maintains, repairs, and renovates structures (residential, commercial, and industrial).
• Mentors apprentices and other construction workers.
• May prepare cost estimates for clients.
