Journey Person Electrician (Electrical Technologist)

The Canadian Light Source Inc. (CLSI) is a national research facility of the University of Saskatchewan. CLS produces very bright light to explore the nature and structure of molecules, and serves national and international users from academia, industry, and government institutions.

CLSI is now accepting applications for a Journeyperson Electrician (Electrical Technologist). Reporting to the Electrical Operations Lead, the Electrical Technologist is responsible for the installation, repair, test and maintenance of wiring, controls, motors and other electrical devices within theCLS Facility.

Responsibilities:
  • The successful candidate will assist in the installation, commissioning and maintenance of electrical distribution equipment, motion control systems, data network cabling, scientific and process instrumentation cabling, conventional facility electrical equipment and other associated equipment.
  • Ensuring project drawings are kept up to date is a fundamental requirement of this position.
  • Reads and interprets drawings, circuit diagrams and electrical code specifications to determine proper wiring layouts for new or existing installations.
  • Limited shift work and on-call duties may be required.
Qualifications:
  • The ideal candidate will be certified as a Journeyperson Electrician with a minimum of six years experience in either conventional or scientific electrical systems.
  • As a member of an interdisciplinary team, the candidate must be a strong team player, willing to learn new skills and technologies through on the job training.
  • The ability to work with minimal supervision in a safe and respectful manner is required.
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills are necessary in order to work with a diverse staff and visiting scientists.

Remuneration:This position falls within the scope of the Unifor Local 609 Collective Agreement. The annual starting salary for this position will be $80,237. A comprehensive benefits package including supplemental health & dental, life insurance, pension plan (8% matching contribution by employer), health spending account ($250 per calendar year), three weeks’ vacation, and Scheduled Days Off is all part of our competitive compensation package. Hours of work for this position will be Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
