Title: Job Search Assistant

Location: Nova Scotia Works (Halifax, Dartmouth and Cole Harbour)

Openings: 3

Position Status: Full-Time; 8-week summer term

Compensation: $18.00 per hour

About the Role:

With funding from Employment Nova Scotia, the YMCA Nova Scotia Works Employment Services Centres deliver comprehensive employment services to support individuals in finding and maintaining meaningful employment. This summer position will specifically support the Head Start program—a youth employability initiative designed to help junior high and high school students explore careers, develop workplace skills, and gain valuable volunteer experience.

As a Job Search Assistant you will:

• Facilitate career exploration and skill-building workshops for junior high and high school youth
• Plan and organize program activities, events, and workshops
• Chaperone and supervise youth during volunteer placements (e.g. with day camps)
• Maintain accurate attendance and participation records
• Assist with tracking training allowances and ensuring completion of program components
• Support and mentor youth to encourage engagement, growth, and confidence
• Greet and sign in clients at the Resource Centre
• Update and maintain the job board with current postings
• Assist clients (youth and general public) with resumes, cover letters, online applications, and job search strategies
• Provide support with computer use, printing, scanning, faxing, and photocopying
• Help clients navigate basic technology and troubleshoot minor issues
• Support other administrative and program-related tasks as required
• Create a positive, inclusive, and respectful environment aligned with YMCA values

Education & Skills Qualifications:

• Student, returning to school in the fall
• Knowledge of community programs and resources
• Proven ability to work with unemployed individuals facing barriers to finding and maintaining employment
• Proficient in Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Teams, Word, Calendar
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills,
• Valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License or access to reliable transportation
• Problem Solving: identifies an issue, gathers and processes relevant information, comes up with possible solutions, selects appropriate responses and implements them.
