Position Summary
This position performs technical and business support related to construction and Quality Control / Quality Assurance within the Roadways & Transportation department. This position reports to the Supervisor of Testing Lab and Field Services.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Sampling material from stockpiles, manufacturing belts, or trucks and compiling statistical and other information required for reports, including running standard and custom computer records as needed.
- Preparing informational reports and summaries.
- Providing quality control / assurance and analysis of data and information from laboratory tests.
- Conducting laboratory testing, including but not limited to asphalt testing (Marshall method), sieve analysis, gradation, and proctors.
- Responding tactfully and adequately to concerns and inquiries from the public and other personnel.
- Following all rules and regulations as set out in the Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and the City of Regina Occupational Health and Safety manual.
- Performing related duties as required.
Key Qualifications
- Applicants must clearly identify their qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in their application/resume.
- The knowledge, skills, and abilities required are obtained through the successful completion of Grade 12 or GED, plus two relevant postsecondary courses (engineering, mathematical, computer, business administrative), and a minimum of two years of operational, field, technical, or engineering experience in a relevant industry.
- Relevant Grade 12 courses include Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus, Statistics, Chemistry, Computers, Accounting, or Physics, which are considered equivalent to postsecondary education.
- Knowledge of basic water, sewer, and waste infrastructure management, materials, operations, construction, maintenance, and preservation.
- Skills to create tables, forms, formulas, queries, reports, and to modify and customize charts and tables using software such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access), including pivot tables and data import/export.
- Knowledge of electronic data collection, organization, storage, and City record retention/destruction policies.
- Effective communication skills in both oral and written forms.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and establish effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, and the public.
- Accurate and precise arithmetic and data handling skills.
- Knowledge of Provincial Occupational Health and Safety rules and regulations applicable to the position.
Working / Other Conditions
- Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver's License and have a vehicle available for work (travel allowance provided).
- Work in gravel pit environments, dusty conditions, and on uneven ground.
- Work in laboratory environments and around heavy equipment.
- Wear PPE such as CSA steel-toed boots, hard hats, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
- Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs over 20 meters.
- Willingness to perform physical work in various environments and conditions.
- Participation in training and certification programs as required.
- Work from variable locations, including overtime, shifts, and irregular hours.
- Testing Lab incumbents must submit a Criminal Record Check every five years as per regulations.
