Job description

Hourly Salary : The base salary for a Casual Labourer is $18.02 per hour. For work performed as a Facilities Operator I, the hourly rate starts at $26.01 per hour (2024 rates).

Position Summary

The Facilities Operator I position supports the daily operations of indoor arenas, pools, and other City of Regina facilities. Responsibilities include manual and automated building/mechanical maintenance, cleaning, general security, and customer service. The position requires working independently and reporting to the Foreman of Facilities Operations.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Conduct regular maintenance and servicing of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment, pool and arena facilities, mechanical equipment, and boiler systems.
  2. Monitor and adjust water treatment chemicals as needed.
  3. Oversee building and preventative maintenance schedules, ensuring the facility's general condition through cleaning and minor electrical and plumbing repairs.
  4. Operate and maintain various equipment, including forklifts, ice flooding machines, and small tractors.
  5. Ensure the security of the facility and its equipment, including opening and closing the facility and confirming that all users have left the premises.
  6. Provide customer service to facility users by offering information, explaining schedules, rules, and regulations, and addressing concerns and requests.
  7. Enforce procedural rules and regulations to ensure the personal safety of facility users.
  8. Perform related tasks as required.

Key Qualifications

  • Successful completion of the Saskatchewan Refrigeration Plant Operators Certificate and Swimming Pool Operators Certificate, combined with 1-2 years of related experience.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain First Aid Certificate, WHMIS Certification, and Fireman's Certificate as required.
  • Knowledge of effective facility and equipment maintenance practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of safe handling procedures, characteristics, and uses of various chemicals (e.g., Freon, Chlorine, Anhydrous Ammonia) and general cleaning agents.
  • Ability to properly use chemicals and conduct tests adhering to departmental standards and guidelines.
  • Ability to operate standard maintenance equipment safely and effectively, performing routine maintenance and checks as per standards outlined by the City of Regina and provincial guidelines.
  • Ability to provide quality internal and external customer service.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating sound judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Physical ability to perform the position functions, including heavy lifting.
  • Effective communication skills in both oral and written forms.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Working / Other Conditions

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have the means and ability to travel within Regina.
  • Willingness to work shifts.

Additional Requirements

The successful candidate may be required to obtain and provide a satisfactory criminal record check, as per the City of Regina's Criminal Record Check Policy.

Proof of acquired education and additional assessments to evaluate competencies, knowledge, skills, and abilities may be required.
