Overview

City Of Hamilton is seeking a Senior Project Manager, Age Friendly City. The role focuses on leading the development and implementation of senior community initiatives, strategies and events, and to oversee Hamilton’s Plan for an Age-Friendly City.

Summary of Duties

Reporting to Manager, Long-Term Care & Seniors, the Senior Project Manager will lead the development and implementation of senior community initiatives, build relationships with partners, engage service providers, facilitate conversations with community groups, attend key events, leverage collaborative opportunities and ensure the strategic integration of project deliverables. The role leads the development and implementation of Hamilton’s Plan for an Age-Friendly City. Responsible for the annual Hamilton Seniors of the Year Award Ceremony and the Seniors kick-off events, ensuring a seniors lens is applied to City development and engagement processes.

General Duties
  • Define project scope, goals and deliverables that support community goals, in collaboration with local leaders, service agencies, City of Hamilton and other key partners and stakeholders.
  • Develop and support a sustainable governance model to oversee the implementation of various community strategies.
  • Represent the City of Hamilton on internal and external committees related to seniors in Hamilton (e.g., Seniors Advisory Committee, Hamilton Council on Aging Collaborative Committee, Age Friendly Governance Committee).
  • Develop and manage key project components such as project planning, activity planning, risk management, community engagement, progress reporting and program evaluation.
  • Provide leadership, collaboration and negotiation to work with community leaders, service providers, community agencies, City leadership, senior City staff and other stakeholders.
  • Stay informed on policy changes and research documents from government sources; collaborate with colleagues from other Ontario municipalities and governments.
  • Monitor and document key issues, challenges and opportunities; escalate as required to management.
  • Establish relationships with City departments and keep senior management informed about project development.
  • Facilitate public meetings, presentations, stakeholder consultations, focus groups and internal project meetings.
  • Prepare staff reports to Council and Senior Management on community strategies and progress.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned related to project responsibilities.
Qualifications
  • Baccalaureate degree in social sciences, public policy, human services or related discipline, with an equivalent combination of education and work experience in government, non-profit, private or community service.
  • Strong knowledge of seniors’ needs, support services, policies and strategies.
  • Experience in project management, policy analysis and program development, including research and program evaluation.
  • Extensive leadership experience with diverse stakeholders (not-for-profit, community groups, businesses, education, health, etc.).
  • Demonstrated political acuity, diplomacy and ability to work with elected and senior officials.
  • Problem-solving abilities related to multi-stakeholder environments and cultural diversity.
  • Organizational and time management skills with ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills; ability to develop and deliver reports and presentations on status, milestones, risks and mitigation.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft productivity tools, MS Visio and related programs.
  • Professional training or designation in project management, business analysis, process improvement, program evaluation or public engagement is an asset.
Salary and Hours

Salary: Salary Grade 6 per annum. Hours: 35 per week. Salary is subject to preliminary evaluation and may be re-evaluated within six months of filling the position.
