Summary of Duties

Reporting to the Manager of Water Distribution, the Superintendent will be responsible for the delivery of services related to preventive maintenance, construction, customer service, and water quality programs. The role involves overseeing ongoing operations to meet the needs of Hamilton's residents and businesses, ensuring compliance with city and provincial guidelines, and leading a team to achieve operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership, technical advice, and direction to staff within the section.
• Develop programs and procedures for water distribution systems.
• Prepare tender documents and administer contracts.
• Monitor operations for legislative compliance and service quality.
• Participate in public and council meetings, and prepare technical reports.
• Manage budgets and expenditures for the core program.
• Interpret blueprints, GIS records, and design standards.
• Make complex decisions daily, providing after-hours coverage as needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

1. Community College Diploma as an Engineering Technologist (Civil preferred) or equivalent, with relevant experience.
2. Knowledge of city bylaws, health and safety policies, regulations, and codes related to water distribution.
3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and GIS applications.
4. Experience managing multidisciplinary staff, preferably in a unionized environment.
5. Preference for candidates with a MOECC Class I Operator Certificate or willingness to obtain one.
6. Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
7. Valid Class G Driver’s license.
